For needlecrafters with a big
and some left-over yarn, here is a great way to reach out and help those who are less fortunate. Join the thousands of crocheters and knitters who are making and donating Caps For Kids.
Caps For Kids is a national, non-profit foundation that collects handmade caps for under-privileged children. The program is carried out through yarn shops across the country who have registered with CFK. Participating shops collect the caps which are distributed in the community of the registered stores. The hats are given to local, non-profit, non-denominational agencies to be given out.
There are about 280 stores across the United States that are participating in the Caps For Kids program. An estimated 15,000 individuals are making not only crocheted and knitted caps, but gloves and mittens, slippers, scarfs, sweaters, baby blankets, booties, toys, etc. There are individuals who will crochet and knit caps with your donated yarn as well. And if you sew and quilt, all new, clean articles of clothing, blankets and toys are gratefully accepted and appreciated.
Just use your favorite hat pattern to make caps in sizes to fit newborns (including preemies) to kids 18 years old. The caps are delivered to needy children in December although you can donate them any time of the year.

"I cannot conceivably influence the worlds's destiny, but I can make my own life more worthwhile. I can give some help to some people; that is not vital to all the world's problems and yet I think if everyone did just that, we might see quite a world in our time!"
