UPDATE PAGE

03/31/98 On our local news last week they talked with Lennon Carr and he said he would never starve his dogs and that yes, he forgot to feed them once in a while.. (The SPCA Vet Technician said, " This abuse didn't happen overnight") and that he wants his dogs back. The courts said it will cost him $4000.00 to get his dogs back and he said he can not afford that. The SPCA is trying to gain ownership of the dogs so they can be put up for adoption. Lennon Carr goes back to court Arpil 2, 1998 so please get your emails to the people on the main page so we can help these poor dogs. The SPCA has said that all the dogs are at their normal weight now and doing good. Can you imagine these babies being put back into the home of this Monster for him to do this again to them.. Lennon Carr is mentally handicapped and doesn't know any better. Well, you tell that to Peaches, the dog who would not of made it another day in that Monster's House.

04/02/98 In court on April 2, 1998 the SPCA was granted ownership of the dogs which means Lennon Carr WILL NOT be getting them back.. HURRAY!!!!!

04/08/98 I sent an email to the SPCA to see how the dogs were doing and asking what precautions are taken to give these dogs a good home and to keep them away from the monster that abused them the first time around. This is the response I received back today from the SPCA, these are some wonderful people doing a great job, I must say!
(reponse) The dogs are doing extremely well...only one of them is still here (the extremely skinny shep, Annie). Unfortunately, although we gained possession of the dogs, there is absolutely no article in the law that states that this person cannot obtain more animals. We have no power to stop that. This is unfortunate, because he might go out and do the exact same thing to more defenseless animals. All we can do is rely on his neighbors, friends and family to keep an eye on him and alert us if anything seems suspicious. When an animal is adopted here at the SPCA, a two page application must be filled out and the potential adopter must go through a complete one-on-one interview with an adoption counselor before even handling an animal. Through this process, we hope to get to know the kind of person interested in adopting one of our pets. Adoption counselors do all they can to determine the level of sincerity, devotion, love, and the kind of atmosphere to which the animal would be exposed. By the time someone is approved to adopt an animal, we have a pretty good idea of the life our animal is going to lead. If the adoption counselors even sense something suspicious or insincere, an adoption can be refused. This is the best we can do to insure these animals do not somehow end up going back to this man, but again, there is absolutely nothing that can be done legally to insure he won't do it to other animals whose lives are just as important as the six that were on the news. Again, I must emphasize that this is not an isolated case. This just happened to be one that made the news...one that the general public was exposed to. Our investigating agents respond to between 100 and 200 animal cruelty calls each month, so we rely heavily on the public to inform us if they sense animal cruelty taking place in any way, shape or form. We will respond to anonymous calls if necessary. Once again, thank you for all your caring and concern.

04/22/98 I sent an email to the SPCA asking for an update on the Miller Street dogs.
(reponse) Thank you for writing the SPCA and checking in on the Miller St. dogs! We did gain possession of the dogs two weeks ago, and all have been adopted into loving homes. However, the trial has not yet taken place as to the charges regarding cruelty to animals...that will follow in May, and hopefully Carr will be severely penalized for his actions. We're keeping our fingers crossed. The people who have adopted the dogs have been filling us in on their conditions, and all are doing very well. We're hoping that they'll bring the dogs in to visit us! Thanks again for writing, and for your concern! The SPCA
