1. My wife is born as Buddhist. I do not want to assimilate her to another culture. She is bringing some of the most positive of her culture to Norway. Earlier I did genealogy. I could trace my family tree almost a thousand years back. Some came from Russia - to Estland, others from Holland, Germany and Denmark. In the end I had thousands of names - and first then I realized that we all belong to one Global Family - and that Humanity is One. However, one should be loyal and respect other cultures. Especially I find the native Americans - the Indians of greate interest. I belive the modern society has a lot of learning from the wisdom of the indian tribes.

2. Thank you for what you have done and are doing! What a wonderful contribution you are making to our world. I am constantly amazed that I have the opportunity to not only learn from but to correspond with outstanding and remarkable people like you. Your home page is simply outstanding. I read the review and I think it is "dead on the mark"! Please know that you have added considerably to the life of a borderline senior citizen who calls Houston, Texas, U.S.A. home.

3. We would love to reprint the article for the Native American Village page. I felt that the writing got quickly to the point, and did a good job communicating what assimilation actually does to various cultures, and specifically to Native Americans.

4. Yup it's a crime what we here in North America have done to the indigenous people, It's a crime what my ancestors the Danes did to the Greenland Eskimo and how some cultures in South America have been wiped out and some are at the poing of anihilation. In the name of what? Progress? Profit? Religion and by who's standards? I don't have the answers. I see that we have a new kind of victim here, the thousands of homeless people in my City, the most prosperous city In Canada. A filthy festerin spot of shame on Toronto that calles itself "Toronto the good."

5. I think peace through the acceptance of non-assimilated people is better than peace through forced assimilation...

September 1997

1. I received the article on assimilation of a culture and would like to know more about who wrote this and/or where it came from.

2. Only one suggestion..Change the color of the links at the bottom... the blue is hard to read against the blue patterned background........*smile*...Apart from that...........Well done !!!! Go for it!!

3. Tyshee...I read the URL.... excellent..... I don't think it's too controversial....I do think it could be said about most indigenous peoples of the world... including here in Australia..... Many of the problems of today can be linked to the "well meaning" efforts of those in charge in the past....... Until reading your piece I had no idea those methods were used there.....Use the Net to educate the world.....!!!!

4. Tyshee, it is a strong piece of writing, but I think it is the truth, and therefore probably needs to be said. Controversial? Perhaps, but justifiably so. What was, and still is in many instances, being done to the native people here, and in many places in the world is inexcusable......criminal in fact. My feeling is to go ahead and put it in your web page.....Who knows? It might just make someone see a little clearer.......... ..I'll let my teacher friends know....they're always looking for native information and stories..

5. I think it is beautiful! and beautifully done! Posting on usenet might bring more people to see it or a bulletin board....Not a subject many would search for. I only think of Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight...

6. So far, what you say is absolutely true..only those who are bigots can disagree with it.

7. You are one clever woman.

8. Try your hand at some fiction with your background being Alaska. People are interested in places with history like yours. People will pay attention to such a good message. As I said it's short, to the point and so informative and thoughtful. People get bored with a long treatise that has lots of big words and pithiness. You did good!

9. WOW,, impressive,,, you ever think of writing a book about that??? I never knew any of that,, honestly!! curious,, to learn more,, thank you for enlightning me,,,have passed it on to a friend,, hope uu don't mind, HUGS!!!

10. I am a fast reader, but it is also a problem amongst the black people h too, you know all the tribal history and the youth wanting to be like the American Black people they see onTV? It is very sad and most of the people only realize that when its too late...

11. That was wonderful, it is the same with cultures all over the world, not just yours, the minority is downtroden by the majority even if the latter happens to be the fewer in numbers.. Its education that counts and not just ABC or 123s it culture and your URL is great!!!! Go for it..you must leave it in..

12. My ancestors were almost all of them Scots. They had a bloody and tragic history too. The effort to revive some of the Scottish customs and culture has a familiar ring doesn't it? There is strength in variety. This country has prospered because of it. I should add that the Scots proceeded to do their own bit of dirty work around the world. Seems we have a lot to learn all of us, from one another.

13. Where did you go to school.. I must admit..I went on your site and my first thought was how intelligent you are!!!!!!!

14. I was listening to a program today where the native people want an apology from the canadian Government for taking them away from home to boarding schools, for the sexual and physical abuse they suffered and for the loss of family and culture.

15. This is such a wonderful site... I am touched, appalled by what was done to your people .....by your love of your people..church..grandchildren...and I have only scanned....It is wonderful Bobbi...how have you kept such a wonderful spirit??? And I want to ask if you were one of those kids sent away??? SOOOOOOOOO AWFUL and heartbreaking...to be told you are not ok.....another way better..angers

16. Bobbie, I just got your file on how a culture dies. I have skimmed it and it is powerful. Thanks much for sharing it with me. I would encourage you to post it on the Internet, perhaps at your home page. Could I share it with some of my Internet friends who are interested in this same thing?

17. Did you write that? Wow! I didn't know you could do that! That is powerful.

18. About your web page, it is the greatest in all of Alaska. Everything about it is top notch and superior to anything I've seen for a long, long time. I especially liked the song from Dr. Zhivago. The Aleut Russian culture is something that I remember as a small boy and you've captured it beautifully.

19. I read your culture piece tonight. I have seen first hand the hoplessness of the Athabascans on 2nd Avenue in Fairbanks and the forgotten cultural heritage in the villages of central Alaska influenced by western ways. Particularly those on the connecting highway system. I have no answers. Only sadness.

20. Just so you know, I will be using some of the matierials from your website in class tomorrow evening and will tell the students about your website. Maybe sometime if you're in town on a Wednesday night you could be a guest speaker. I really like what you have to say.

21. It is a great subject and well writen. It was written from the Heart.

22. Very provocative! as well put as Father Michael Oleksa . Some should listen to these words. Well done.

23. I have been a supporter and 'agitator' for the cause of allowing people to be people. It seems that the higher the level of education, the more the subtle bigotry becomes a hidden agenda. Power struggles of the past never pass away; they simply change masks and rhetoric. It all seems to bring out the best in those who care, and the worst in those who are hypocrites. As Norman Lear found out with his "Archie Bunker" series on tv, bigots thrive on bigotry! There are an increasing number of people who have discovered that taking away the civil rights and culture of "weaker" people, erodes their own future and that of their children. This is producing the expected two-tier society. I developed my web page to help expand such an understanding, Tyshee. And I am also a 'honky' who has suffered discrimination. This is the fate of all who will not go along with the "mainstream" propaganda and cultural oppression. Keep on keepin' on!

24. August 24, 1998...Thank you for your work. Many of us in South Texas have lived a similar experiance. We were native Texasns who are labled indians by the Mexicans,Mexican by the Anglos and by those that do not know the history in Texas. The system rewards those that lose their culture, and those that preserve their heritage are not treated fairly. Anyway, GREAT WORK keep it up.!

In our quest for World Peace, it is imperative to gain understanding and tolerance for all races, religions, life styles and languages. Your comment and link belong here!!!!!!
