Sarkel’s Promise "Lucky" Deal, GCG, is a 3 ½ year old male, fawn boxer sired By Ch. Shieldmont’s Let’s Make A Deal, SOM out of Ch. Sarkel’s Promise of Cross Bars, CD, CGC, DOM. His breeders are Ann & Herb Gilbert of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Although trained in obedience at the Tulsa Dog Training Club by Rozetta Howard, Lucky has received no formal therapy or companion dog training. His actions can only be attributed to the boxer’s natural instincts to serve and Lucky’s special devotion and love for his "Granny." |
It is with a very sad heart that I write today. I received a call from Billie Jean Davis last night who informed me that Lucky AKA Sarkel's Promised Lucky Deal, CGC traveled to the bridge sometime during the night of August 13, 2000. Many of you have read the story of how Lucky was a hero by bringing the phone to Billie Jean's disabled mother when she took a tumble in the bathroom several years ago. Lucky was a blessing in many ways. He was born in July 1993, his parents were Ch. Sarkel's Promise of Cross Bars, CD, CGC, DOM and Ch. Shieldmot's Let's Make A Deal, SOM. We were always proud of his pedigree but his contribution to our breed as a therapy dog for his special human, Mary Francis, out shadow any of his illustrious relatives accomplishments. I shall carry "Lucky Duck" in my heart as I best remember him, waddling around in the whelping box crying for his Mama Sadie. Many of you probably don't know that Lucky was born with a hole in his heart and was given a maximum of 3 years to live by vets at Texas A & M. He survived 7 years and ironically it wasn't his heart that let him down, it was our old enemy cancer. During those years he competed in obedience and had two legs towards his CD, his down fall was his no heel free attitude :) He will be missed by Billie Jean, Rozetta Howard and most of all Mary Francis who depended on him more than you or I will probably ever depend on our own boxers.
She gave you life, lots of kisses and lots of sighs. Little did I know how special you would be, Your new family was sure a fine companion you would be, You loved your new family, especially Mary Francis, Your heart was not perfect by anatomy's design, One fateful day Mary Francis took a fall, Had you not been there she would have laid in agony, Although you tried very hard for that illusive CD was not to
be, Some dogs have fancy certificates to declare their fame, You were a special gift from God, A Promised deal for us all, We shall miss you our Lucky Duck more than we can bear, As you left our world I know your Mama was there, Your special Love now flows in heaven, like a warm spring rain All my love, Ann Gilbert |
