Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance.
They awaken us to understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon.
They stay in our lives for awhile; leave footprints on our hearts.

A Daughter's Tribute

My dear friend Chrissy and her mother had a very special relationship. They deeply loved and respected one another. Indeed, Mrs. Lewin's passing has been a great loss. Towards the very end of her mother's illness, Chrissy created a web page to celebrate her mother's spirit. Please take the time to visit her page.

After a nearly 12 year battle with her illness, Mrs. Lewin is finally at peace now, but for Chrissy & her sisters the race has just begun. Having one affected first degree relative doubles your risk of developing breast cancer. Through diet & other lifestyle choices like breast self-examination & early mammograms, the girls will be able to minimize their risk.

In May 2001, Chrissy plans to take part in a 3 day, 60 mile walk to raise money for breast cancer research. Scientists are hard at work to better understand what causes this cancer to develop (both at the genetic & environmental levels) as well as attempting to develop effective preventitive treatments. Research, however, costs a lot of money. Chrissy needs to come up with approximately $2000 for her walk. Show your support for Chrissy, Mrs. Lewin and the thousands of other families affected by breast cancer each year by considering a small donation to this cause. For more information about the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Boston 2001, visit this web site or contact Chrissy directly at Davyschris@aol.com.

With the help of her web friend Deana, Chrissy is also trying to get the word out about how important it is to get yearly mammograms. If you have gotten a mammogram this year, please take this banner designed for Chrissy's site to spread awareness.

Also be aware that there are probably several organizations within your very own community working hard to reduce the number of women who die from this disease. Some programs are established to fund mammogram outreach or to maintain local hospitals' cancer centers. Anything you can do to help, monetarily or otherwise, can make a world of difference.

Did you know?

  • 1 out of 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
  • Every 3 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. There were approximately 175,000 new cases in 1999.
  • Every 12 minutes a woman dies from breast cancer in the United States. Between 43,000 - 46,000 women lost their battles last year, about 25% of those diagnosed.

Remember ~Christina Rossetti

REMEMBER me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
