INTRODUCTION:
This is a portion of the oral history that was written by my grandfather John
Vanderhorst. He wrote our family history for the "benefit of those to come".
He recorded as much information about our family such as names, dates,
spouses names,and places to the best of his knowlegde. So some of the
information may not be accurate and it advised that additional research is
necessary.

Currently, I am researching documents to complete my grandfathers work. If

1. Samuel VANDROSS - b. 16 Sept 1824

Generation 2

1. Samuel VANDROSS married Annie WILLIAMSON (b.14 May 1829) on 27 Jun 1849.
Annie Williamson had a daughter from a previous marriage. Her daughter was
Annie GATEWOOD (b 30 Nov 1845-10 Nov 1903).

Note: In 1870 William Vandross and Irene Vandross lived in the City of
Charleston in Ward 8 with their stepsister Annie Gatewood.

Generation 3

12. William VANDROSS (b1853) married Mary Jane STALEY (2 Jun 1856,
Branchville, South Carolina) on 01 June 1874. Mary Jane took the name of her
stepfather Mr. JONES. So, Mary Jane was known as Mary J. JONES. Mary's
grandmother was Jane MAYERS (b 1816). Jane Mayers had many children. Her
oldest daughter Annie Mayers had four children.
They were: Howard CARROL, Frances Carrol, Mary Jane Staley, and baby Staley
who died an infant.

William VANDROSS changed the name to VANDERHORST.
William and Mary had eleven children. They lived in the City of Charleston and in
the early 1900's moved to Dorchester Co, South Carolina.

121. Henrietta VANDERHORST (b 1874) married a Mr. SEARS from St. George, SC. in 1902
and lived together 27 yrs until her death. They had no children.

122. Irene VANDERHORST (b 1876) married Arthur WHITNEY (b 1877) in 1896. They
lived in the City of Charleston.

Note: On the 1920 Census Robert lived with his wife Minnie and daughter Viola (12 yrs old). Robert's death record mentions Elizabeth as his wife at the time of his death. Further research is necessary to determine the relationship between Robert and Minnie.

129. Wilhemina VANDERHORST (b1893) married Timothy ESAW (b 1891). They lived
in the Suburb of Summerville, Dorchester Co, SC in 1920.
