IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND

From the day we are born we need nurturing care
That's why God made mothers with much love to spare.
And when we were young and had bad dreams or fears,
Our moms and our dads wiped away all our tears.
What comfort we felt and how soundly we slept
With the all-night vigil our parents both kept.
And as we grew older, those childhood fears gone
We learned that our parent's job still is not done.
For when we have children, our parents we need
To give guidance and advice to help us succeed.
The job of a parent gets harder with age
You become grandparents - it's a whole new stage.
And as you grow old and look back on your life
You can look at those children and know you've done right.
For all through your life you kept God number one
And you know when He calls you and your job is done,
The life that He gave you was Godly and grand,
And you know that you're held in the palm of His Hand.

Written by Beth Cates on 10-26-97 in memory of William Fletcher who went home to be with our Lord 10-18-97, also in memory of my grandmother, Velma Fletcher who went home to be with the Lord on 12-11-98, but most of all I dedicate this to my own mother, Charlotte Whitfield who was not only a terrific mother, but a fabulous grandma to our kids. God, in His wisdom, chose to take her on 9-1-85
