Anja, beautiful Anja has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Born Dec. 12, 1989, she passed away, Sept. 10, 1998.
On August 25, 1998, JoAnne advised us that Anja had a preliminary diagnosis that included and turned out to be pericardial effusion. Over the past several days Anja experienced a series of rallies and ebbs as the heartbreaking inevitable slowly became more obvious.
Today (9/10/98) we received word that Tim and JoAnne had to make the decision that we GSD and all animal lovers know we face when we take these short life span creatures into our hearts and homes.
Anja now waits at the Rainbow Bridge for the rest of her family. A trip we all will make eventually. Some of us will be fortunate like Tim and JoAnne to find an animal like Anja waiting.
Tim and JoAnne gave Anja a home and an abundance of love. Anja not only returned that love, but was also a true Heroine. Please read below the original text of Anja's page. It was through this story that we first met this fine family on the net.
This story was
E-mailed to me by JoAnne Fox. As I told JoAnne, just because Anja was
over-powered, in no way detracts from her heroic intent. Here's the
story in JoAnne's words.
....She has a
CGC, and although we never competed in obedience (I hadn't the
inclination) she is one of the best behaved house dog / companions I've ever known. She's
definitely better behaved than most peoples kids! She's happy as long as she's "with", regardless of what else that means. Her "job" in life is to a) please me (after all, I AM the alpha bitch) and b) protect our home.
The latter role was tested recently, and unfortunately she was up against more than her match. Judging from the frying pan we found in the den and the matter in her eyes, we suspect our intruders sprayed her with pepper spray, and then
walloped her.
Luckily, she wasn't really hurt, but emotionally she was devastated! She knew that she had failed, and no amount of reassurance could change that. She's mostly getting back to her old self, but is not as assertive as she used to be within the pack.
"Tender Shepherd" plays in the background, in memory of Anja.
