Once an Eagle always an Eagle...

EAGLE REUNION

December 2, 1999

Site: Hilton Hotel, San Francisco

Cost: FREE

Keynote speaker: Robert Gates, former Dir of CIA and Chairman of NESA.

Eagle Scouts from throughout Northern California were invited. [It didn't matter what city or state where the Eagle Rank was earned: if you are an Eagle, you were invited.] Joe Yeoman, Justin Riggs, Scott Evans, and George Golish represented TR at the Eagle Reunion. Justin sent his impressions of the evening:

The Eagle reunion was wonderful, I was very pleasantly surprised. It was very well planned and classy, the food was even good. I was especially impressed by the speakers. They helped to make it a very emotional and memorable day. The keynote speaker was really brilliant, probebly the best speaker I've ever seen. I think it's safe to say he made all the Eagles think back to our commitment and how we now, more than ever, have a responsibility to uphold high morals.

I should also note that although I have heard there were some protesters I didn't see any of them. Joe and I went in through one of the less used entrances and didn't encounter any problems, other than they wanted invitations from us (and we had been previously told we wouldn't need them). But this was quickly solved when we took off our jackets to reveal our uniforms. I still don't quite understand why hardly anybody came in uniform, I don't think any leader with a uniform should replace it with suit and tie at any scouting event. But anyway... There were Eagles of all ages present, the oldest having recieved his Eagle in 1927 (65 years before me).

Everybody I talked to about it said they enjoyed it, and I think it's safe to say that most of us who went this time would be glad to go again!

---Justin Riggs (Eagle Scout)
