WEBELOS-TO-SCOUT TRANSITION PROGRAM

Webelos leaders in order for your webelos to receive the District award (Patch) the requirements are:
  • Have the boys; Decide on a patrol name, make a patrol flag.
  • Make 3 visits to a scout troop of their choosing.
  • Take your webelos and their PARENTS to visit the troop your webelos will joining.
  • Bring your webelos to the Feb/Mar roundtable to receive their patch and certificate.

  • TROOP's RESPONSIBILITIES IN TRANSITION

Knowing that 70% of all boys who join Boy Scouts were Webelos Scouts first, it makes good sense to recruit those Webelos. New members have vitality, new ideas, and add new parents to the Troop. You should play a critical role in recruiting new Scouts to your Troop through this Webelos Graduation Plan. We can only get the values of Scouting into the Boy if we first get the boy into Scouting. This is designed as a checklist to help your Trooop recruit new Webelos Scouts into becoming Boy Scouts.

    OCTOBER/NOVEMBER
  • Choose and made reservations for your Troops summer long-term camp, if you have not already done so.
  • Meet with your Unit Commissioner and let them know your desires of increasing your Troop size.
  • Appoint good Scouts to be Webelos Den Chiefs to help get Webelos in nearby Packs interested in joining your Troop.

    NOVEMBER
  • Invite Webelos Dens and their Leaders to visit a Troop meeting. Have materials ready describing Troop activities, summer camp plans and other information parents will want to know.

    DECEMBER
  • Plan to be part of the Pack's February or March meeting and Webelos Graduation.

    FEBRUARY/MARCH
  • Attend the Pack meeting in February or March and help conduct the graduation ceremony. This is a great opportunity to have your Senior Patrol Leader act on behalf of the Troop in welcoming the new recruits as well as the Patrol Leaders of each patrol. Troops can also be ready with applications to register the new youth as well as any other items such as a Scout Handbook or Trooop neckerchief.
  • Invite Webelos Leaders to be the new Scout's patrol advisor. This will help the new boys get adjusted and provides an excellent prospect for a new assistant or committee person in the troop.
  • Be sure all new scouts have the troop schedule so that they can begin participating in Troop activities.

    PACK's RESPONSIBILITIES IN TRANSITION

Your pack has given your Webelos a good beginning on the Scouting trail. As you know, the purpose of the Webelos program is to prepare and help boys become Boy Scouts. We know that boys succeed best in becoming Scouts when the Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and Webelos Leader work on their transition together, as a Scouting team

Webelos Leaders and the Scoutmaster(s) have a major role in this Webelos-to Scout Graduation Plan, but we are counting on you to help in several important ways. We can only get the values of Scouting into the Boy if we first get the boy into Scouting. This plan is designed as a checklist to help your Webelos Scouts succeed in becoming Boy Scouts.

    NOVEMBER
  • Encourage your Webelos Leaders to complete their rosters and return them to the Council Service Center.
  • Assist your Webelos Leaders in visiting troop meetings of the local troops. (For a list of names of the local Scoutmaster(s), as at Scout Roundtable, your Unit Commissioner, or District Executive.)
  • Encourage your Webelos scouts to make a final decision about the troop they wish to join.
  • Make an appointment with the Scoutmaster. Confirm with them the Webelos Graduation Plan for the February or March Pack meeting.
  • Invite the Scoutmaster to your Blue and Gold Banquet as an honored guest. Have him sit with the Webelos den, and assist with the graduation ceremony.
  • With the Webelos Leader and Scoutmaster plan a top-notch Webelos Graduation for the February or March Pack Meeting. (See Den and Pack Ceremonies). February is preferred to later months so that new Boy Scouts have Troop meetings in March through May to get acquainted and prepare to attend a long-term summer camp with the Troop.

    FEBRUARY/MARCH
  • Conduct your Webelos graduation at the Pack Meeting. Webelos should register and become a Boy Scout in the Troop at this time.
  • Assit the Webelos Den leader(s) in follow up with any of your Webelos as to why they did not yet join a Troop.
