WHITE STAG
Junior Leader Training Camp

Members of Venture Crew 122, White Stag Leadership Development, have taught eleven specific leadership "skills" or competencies to youth age 11-18 for over 40 years. Their program is based on considerable research and practice. They teach these skills relying on specific philosophy and principles to accomplish detailed aims.

They believe leadership is an acquired trait and practice leadership development by design. White Stag is a Scouting program and they invite participation by other community youth groups as well, including Girl Scouts.

The 11 competencies were originally conceived by a Scouter, the founder of White Stag, Dr. Bela Banathy, in the late 1950's and early 1960's. These leadership skills are described in considerable detail on their web site.

The program is run almost completely run by youth who are members of Venture Crew 122. The youth plan the menus, write the program plans, develop the ceremonies, manage equipment, and do nearly everything else that can be done without a driver's license and a checkbook. It is truly a program for youth by youth.

The Crew is sponsored by a group of interested adults, including educators, professionals, and alumni. The White Stag Association sponsors the group in the San Francisco Bay Area; White Stag Leadership Development, Inc., is being organized to sponsor groups in Monterey and additional locations.
