Josephine Bialas Rembas and their new son, Joseph, and Bill Bialas' wife and his two boys came together on the same vessel, S.S. Potsdam, and arrived in New York City on May 12, 1914.

The "Potsdam" was a 12,606 gross ton ship, built in 1899 by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg for the Holland-America Line. Her details were - length 550ft x beam 62ft, one funnel, two masts, twin screw and a speed of 15 knots. There was accommodation for 282 - 1st class,
210 - 2nd class and 1,800 - 3rd class passengers.

Launched on December 15, 1899, she sailed from Rotterdam on her maiden voyage
to New York on May 5, 1900.






As the "Potsdam" appeared during her trials in early 1900, before her builders delivered her to the Holland-America Line.




As the "Potsdam" appeared between 1901 and 1922 with her funnel lengthened (She was jokingly called the "Funneldam".)




She commenced her last voyage from Rotterdam
to New York on April 24, 1915,
and then went to the Swedish American Line and was renamed "Stockholm".

She left Gothenburg on her first voyage for this company on December 11, 1915 and called at
Kirkwall for contraband inspection on her way to New York.
In 1922, she was reconditioned in Gothenburg. She commenced her last voyage
from Gothenburg to Halifax and New York on September 29, 1928 and in 1929
was converted to a Norwegian whale factory ship and renamed "Solglimt".

In 1941, she was captured in the Antarctic by the German Armed Merchant Raider "Pinguin"
and taken to Bordeaux. Later the same year, she was put under the
German flag and renamed "Sonderburg".
On June 29, 1944, she was scuttled by the Germens at Cherbourg,
raised in 1947 and scrapped.
