Single Sex Organisation
In the UK Guiding has always been single-sex in the belief that this offers girls and young women the best opportunities for personal and social development.
Girls mature more quickely than boys, but their self confidence matures more slowly. A mixed group highlights the differences. A single-sex group gives girls the chance to:
- decide what to do
- work together in teams, co-operate and negotiate on an equal basis
- assert themselves
- see other women in positions of responsibility, taking the lead
- develop a sense of identity and self worth
