THE TWENTY-THIRD CHANNEL

The TV is my shepherd.

I shall not want.

It makes me to lie down on the sofa.

It leads me away from the Scriptures.

It destroys my soul.

It leads me in the paths of sex and violence

For the sponsor's sake.

Yea, though I walk in the shadow of

My Christian responsibilities,

There will be no interruption,

For the TV is with me.

Its cable and its remote control

They comfort me.

It prepares a commercial before me

In the presence of my worldliness.

It anoints my head with humanism.

My coveting runneth over.

Surely laziness and ignorance shall follow me

All the days of my life

And I shall dwell in the house of

Watching TV forever.

I think this is a sad, but true, comment on our culture. I'm not against television, and I don't think the TV is evil, but it does have potential for abuse. Does this "psalm" describe you? Is the TV-- or anything else, for that matter-- keeping you away from the responsibility you have as a Christian? Are the shows you watch immoral or displeasing to God? If so, you should seriously consider it's value. Is it worth your soul? I really don't think that it is. Be aware of what you watch, and only watch things that are pleasing to God. If you wouldn't watch it with Jesus Christ in the room with you, don't watch it at all.
