1900 YEAR-OLD NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH: O, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the Throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain from me, from your Divine Son, all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers. O, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name, and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen. Say for 9 mornings for anything you want. It has been seldom known to fail. Whoever reads this prayer, hears it read, or carries it, will never die a sudden death, nor be drowned, nor will poison take effect in them. They will not fall into the hands of the enemy, nor be burned in any fire, nor will they be defeated in battle. This prayer should be made known everywhere. |

FOURTH NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH: We have already implored, blessed Joseph, the help of our Lady, your sinless spouse. In our affliction we now turn with confidence to you also, and beg you earnestly to take us under your protection. On earth you were one in love with the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God. You cherished the child Jesus with a father's affection. We know, then, that you will look graciously on our petitions because we have been purchased at the price of Christ's life. We are sure you will assist us, glorious St. Joseph, by your power and strength. Because you were the watchful guardian of the Holy Family, please watch over us, Christ's chosen offspring. Like an alert father kindly keep far from us every taint of error or corruption. From your place of glory on high come to aid us in our conflict with the powers of darkness. When the child Jesus was in peril of His life, more than once you rescued Him. So save His holy Church now from the deceits of its enemies and from every adversity, Please shield us now, great St. Joseph, by your fatherly care. Help us now to imitate your example and virtue so that we may lead a holy life, die a happy death, and enjoy your company forever in Heaven. Amen. V. St. Joseph, whom the infant Jesus so much loved, R. Grant us what we ask. Assist us, Lord, by the merits of your foster father, St. Joseph, spouse of Your most holy Mother. May his help gain for us what our own efforts cannot. This we ask through You, Who lives and reigns with God the Father in the union of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen. We pray, first of all, for the Church: that it may be free from error and corruption, and be a shining light of universal love and justice. We ask your intercession for our loved ones in their trials and adversities, that they may be inspired by the love, obedience, and affection of the Holy Family, and be to each other a mutual source of consolation and Christian fidelity. We ask your intercession, also, for our special need (mention petition), and to keep us all under your protection so that strengthened by your example and assistance, we may lead a holy life, die a happy death, and come to the possession of everlasting happiness in heaven. Amen.

THIRTY DAYS PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH: Ever blessed and glorious Joseph, kind and loving father, and helpful friend of all in sorrow! You are the good father and protector of orphans, the defender of the defenseless, the patron of those in need and sorrow. Look kindly on my request. My sins have drawn down on me the just displeasure of my God, and so I am surrounded with unhappiness. To you, loving guardian of the Family of Nazareth, do I go for help and protection. Listen, then, I beg you, with fatherly concern, to my earnest prayers, and obtain for me the favors I ask, especially (mention petition). I ask it by the infinite mercy of the eternal Son of God, which moved Him to take our nature and to be born into this world of sorrow. I ask it by the weariness and suffering you endured when you found no shelter at the inn of Bethlehem for the holy Virgin, nor a house where the Son of God could be born. Then, being everywhere refused, you had to allow the Queen of Heaven to give birth to the world's Redeemer in a cave. I ask it by the loveliness and power of that sacred Name, Jesus, which you conferred on the adorable Infant. I ask it by that painful torture you felt at the prophecy of holy Simeon, which declared the Child Jesus and His holy Mother future victims of our sins and of their great love for us. I ask it through your sorrow and pain of soul when the angel declared to you that the life of the Child Jesus was sought by His enemies. From their evil plan you had to flee with Him and His Blessed Mother to Egypt. I ask it by all the suffering, weariness, and labors of that long and dangerous journey. I ask it by all your care to protect the Sacred Child and His Immaculate Mother during your second journey, when you were ordered to return to your own country. I ask it by your peaceful life in Nazareth where you met with so many joys and sorrows. I ask it by your great distress when the adorable Child was lost to you and His Mother for three days. I ask it by your joy at finding Him in the Temple, and by the comfort you found at Nazareth, while living in the company of the Child Jesus. I ask it by the wonderful submission He showed in His obedience to you. I ask it by the perfect love and conformity you showed in accepting the Divine order to depart from this life, and from the company of Jesus and Mary. I ask it by the joy which filled your soul, when the Redeemer of the world, triumphant over death and hell, entered into the possession of His kingdom and led you into it with special honors. I ask it through Mary's glorious Assumption and through that endless happiness you have with her in the presence of God. O good father, I beg you, by all your sufferings, sorrows, and joys, to hear me and obtain for me what I ask, especially (mention petition). Obtain for all those who have asked my prayers everything that is useful to them in the plan of God. Finally, my dear patron and father, be with me and all who are dear to me in our last moments, that we may eternally sing the praises of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.

MEMORARE TO ST. JOSEPH: Remember, 0 most pure Spouse of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, my beloved patron, that never hath it been heard that anyone invoked thy patronage and sought thine aid without being comforted. Inspired by this confidence, I come to thee and fervently commend myself to thee. Despise not my petition, dear foster-father of our Redeemer, but accept it graciously. Amen. |
PRAYER FOR STRONG FAITH: Happy, blissful St. Joseph, heir of the faith of all the patriarchs, obtain for me this beautiful and precious virtue: increase in me a lively faith, the foundation of all sanctity, that faith without which no one can be pleasing to God. Obtain for me that faith which triumphs over all temptations of the world and conquers human respect; which can be shaken by nothing, and is directed solely towards God. Cause me after your example to live by faith, to subject my heart and understanding to God, that once I may behold in heaven what I now firmly believe on earth.

PRAYER TO OBTAIN A CONVERSION: O glorious patriarch who merited to be called just by the Holy Spirit, I urgently recommend to you the soul of (Name them), which Jesus redeemed at the price of His Precious Blood. You know how deplorable is the state and how unhappy the life of those who have banished this loving Savior from their hearts, and how greatly they are exposed to the danger of losing Him eternally. Permit not, I beseech you, that a soul so dear to me should continue any longer in its evil ways. Preserve it from the danger that threatens it. Touch the heart of this prodigal child, and conduct them back to the bosom of the fondest of fathers. Abandon them not, I implore you, until you have opened to him the gates of the heavenly city, where they will praise and bless you throughout eternity for the happiness which he will owe to your powerful intercession.

FIRST PRAYER FOR PROTECTION: Blessed St. Joseph, husband of Mary, be with us this day. You protected and cherished the Virgin; loving the Child Jesus as your Son, you rescued Him from the danger of death. Defend the Church, the household of God, purchased by the Blood of Christ. Guardian of the Holy Family, be with us in our trials. May your prayers obtain for us the strength to flee from error and wrestle with the powers of corruption, so that in life, we may grow in holiness, and in death, rejoice in the crown of victory. Amen. |
SECOND PRAYER FOR PROTECTION: O, glorious St. Joseph, chosen by God to be the foster father of Jesus, the chaste spouse of Mary ever-Virgin, and head of the Holy Family, be the Heavenly Patron and Defender of the Church founded by Jesus. With confidence, we beg your powerful aid for the Church on earth. Shield it with paternal love, especially the Supreme Pontiff, together with all the bishops and priests who are in union with the Holy See. Be the defender of all who labor for souls. Protect the working men and women and their families. Intercede for young people who are searching for their place in life. Be the sure refuge for all of us at the hour of our death, and guide us safely to Heaven. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen. |
PRAYER FOR A HAPPY DEATH: Glorious St. Joseph, behold I choose thee today for my special patron in life and at the hour of my death. Preserve and increase in me the spirit of prayer and fervor in the service of God. Remove far from me every kind of sin; obtain for me that my death may not come upon me unawares, but that I may have time to confess my sins sacramentally, and to bewail them with a most perfect understanding and a most sincere contrition, in order that I may breathe forth my soul into the hands of Jesus and Mary. Amen. |
PRAYER FOR SUCCESS IN WORK: Glorious St. Joseph, model of all those who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work conscientiously putting the call of duty above my natural inclinations; to work with gratitude and joy, considering it an honor to employ and develop, by means of labor, the gifts received from God; without recoiling before weariness or difficulties; to work, above all, with purity of intention, and with detachment from self, having always death before my eves and the account which I must render of time lost, of talents wasted, of good omitted, of vain complacency in success so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary all after thy example, Patriarch St. Joseph. Such shall be my watchword in life and death. Imprimatur: Albert Cardinal Meyer, Archbishop of Chicago |
PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH BY ST. ALPHONSUS: O holy Patriarch, St. Joseph, I rejoice with you at the exalted dignity by which you were deemed worthy to act as father to Jesus, to give Him orders, and to be obeyed by Him whom heaven and earth obey! O great Joseph, as you were served by God, I too wish to be taken into your service. I choose you after Mary to be my chief advocate and protector. I promise to honor you every day by some special act of devotion and by placing myself under your daily protection. By that sweet company which Jesus and Mary gave you in your lifetime, protect me all through life, so that I may never separate myself from God by losing His grace. My dear Joseph, pray to Jesus for me. Certainly He can never refuse you anything, since He obeyed all your orders while on earth. Ask Him to detach me from all creatures and from myself, to inflame me with His holy love, and then to do with me what He pleases. And by that assistance which Jesus and Mary gave you at death, I beg of you to protect me in a special way at the hour of my death, so that dying assisted by you, in the company of Jesus and Mary, I may go to thank you in heaven, and in your company to sing God's praises for all eternity. Amen.
