MARCIE'S CRAFTED ANGELS

My Angel Banner

Another of my favorite things to craft and collect
besides owls, birdhouses and frames are
country angels. Following are some of my angels.

"Wallhanging Angel"

Picture of Angel Wallhanging This angel is appliqued, painted and then quilted. The wings and skirt are salvaged embroidry pieces from garage sale linens. Several different types of fabric scraps were used to create the country quilted look. I used buttons to embellish but you could use whatever you had handy. Just remember to use the proper glue if you plan to launder this project. I usually use "Aleene's" fusible web to applique and her "O.K. TO WASH IT" for applying buttons, jewels etc. The "faux" quilting lines were done using a permanent marking pen. This is really important if laundering is a possibility. There are many good pens on the market that come in a variety of pen tip sizes.

We're waiting for new photos of my other angel projects. Hopefully those will be ready soon so you can see some more of my favorite angels. Almost any doll type project is easily converted to an angel one. Wings can be made of virtually anything. Just look around you, the first disposable thing that's not glued, nailed or tied down can probably become wings. Try bendable vine type twigs, meat trays from grocers, brown paper bags, straws. Cardboard boxes are a great resource. Used alum. foil doesn't have to be thrown away. Use it for the basic shape and cover with paper mache. Recycling can really stretch your imagination. If you draw a blank, let the kids or grandkids help. We seem to lose that inventiveness unless we work at it as we get older. Recycling can also be good for a lot of laughs. Some things I try don't work but the chuckles along the way are just plain good medicine for the soul. I seem to have digressed but my little guardian angel has a twinkle in her eye and we enjoy the mistakes sometimes as much as the sucesses.
