Visit the Monahans

jpm

So, what is this all about?

Long ago, when I was a teenager, I invented this monogram of my initials (my "JPMblem", so to speak). And I would scrawl it on chalkboards in school when no one was looking, to show I'd been there. Now that I'm grown, I can express myself in more adult ways... like scrawling it on home pages! If you'd like me to visit your site and leave my mark, drop me a note with your location. I'll check out your pages and send back a copy of one of them with my monogram stuck in someplace. You can then decide whether to store it. (I may be a tagger, in today's terms, but I'm polite about it. :-)

FAQ (which in this case, since I haven't been asked anything yet, stands for "Forestalling Actual Questions")

Why can't I add the monogram myself?
That's part of the fun of it: I get to choose where to leave my mark. Of course, you have the final say whether to accept my choice, so I'm not going to mess things up. If you have a separate page for links to home pages, I'll usually put it there. Otherwise, I'll find a place where people will notice it but it won't stand out too much.

What if I don't like your choice? Can I move it?
I'd prefer you didn't. Small adjustments are OK, I suppose, but if you want to move it to another page please ask me to do it. That way it will still be in keeping with the theme.

Will you "tag" everyone who asks?
No, I may respectfully decline an invitation at my discretion. This is a Heartland page, after all, and I am maintaining a list of tagged sites, so there may be some sites I'd rather not reference. (Those with unshielded adult content or anti-Christian bias need not even apply.) Also, I may find a site that in my opinion would be spoiled by my mark: one where every page is serious or uplifting, or where the composition is ideal. (Why someone with such a site would want my tag I don't know, but I'm trying to cover all bases here.)

Will you "tag" pages without being asked?
I'm not a hacker, so I won't change any page directly. (If my mark suddenly appears on your page without notice, I didn't do it!) However, let's be honest: I may not get a lot of visitors. If, while surfing the web, I find a page that I'd like to tag, I may E-mail the owner with a proposed modification. But it's still up to that owner to decide whether to accept it. Unlike taggers in the "real" world, my mark will be shown only with the consent of the site owner.

Will your mark always stay the same?
No, I try to match the mailed-out icon to its environment, to help it blend in with its surroundings (and also as a personal touch for the recipient). So, for example, I might change its size or color or even animate it if circumstances dictate. These are hints, if you're looking in the tagged sites...

I like the concept, but don't want my page tagged. Got an alternative?
Yes, and you don't need individual permission to do it. Just grab the image shown at the right and add it to your site wherever you want, using the following wording (or equivalent):
"<a href=http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Plains/1770/jpm.html><img src=nojpm.gif border=0></a> A tag-free site"
Of course, if you do this, I won't be able to add your site to my list. :-(
