The Rex rabbit is a mutation that appeared in litters from normal gray rabbits. In 1919 a farmer named Desire Caillon, of France. He bred them and found that some of the kits had short coats. This drew the attention of M.Gillet and he foreseen of introducing a new class of rabbit.
Fur is to be extremely dense, with length no less than 1/2 inch or more than 7/8 inch. It has a plush fel and a spring resistance to the touch. There are 15 colors of Rex coats that are recognized.
For many years the French in the Vosges,Savoy,Mayence, Normandy and Jura plicked the wool from these rabbits making their own yarns. There are many colors produced my the French Angora, but the wool can be dyed to many more colors. There are 32 colors recognized. Ideal length of coat is 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches
The Satin Angora is very simular to the French Angora. But is known for the brilliant sheen of wool. This breed was created my Mrs.L.P Meyer of Canada, by crossing a copper Satin to a fawn French Angora. Ideal wool lenght is 3 inches. there are 31 colors recognized
