WHAT PRICE FOR A DUI CONVICTION?

Actual costs for a DUI conviction differ in each case. One thing is certain - a DUI conviction is expensive and time consuming. Washington State MADD compiled direct costs you can expect if convicted of DUI:

1. Attorney: $500 to $1,500 or more, especially in the case of jury trial or appeal.

2. Fines and assessed court costs: $685 to $8,125 for a first offense, $925 to $8,1225 for a second offense.

3. Insurance: You will pay as much as $800 in increassed premiums each year.

4. Alcohol/drug evaluations: $75 average fee.

5. Alcohol/Drug Information School: Up to $120 tuition.

6. Treatment, if required: $1,200 to $10,000.

7. Towing charge: $50 average.

8. License reinstatement fee: $50. Plus, all revocations require passing the driving test before a driver's license is reinstated.

$3,000 is the minimum you can expect!

And the bill can easily exceed $14,000! And those are only the direct costs. Remember, there are also hidden costs such as lost employment, time off from work, auto repair, medical expenses, and alternative transportation.
