SPICY CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS
Servings: 6
1 c Applesauce
4 oz Ground cinnamon
1 oz Ground cloves
1 oz Ground nutmeg
1 oz Ground ginger
(1 oz = 1/8 c = 2 Tbs; 4 oz = 8 Tbs = 1/2 c.)
Combine everything and blend with your hands until dough is smooth. Add more applesauce if necessary. Divide dough into quarters. Sprinkle counter with cinnamon and roll out portion of dough to 1/4" thick. Cut with cookie cutters and transfer to cookie sheet. Pierce with skewer to form hole for hanging. Turn ornaments every 12 hours and examine until they are dry. This takes 3 to 5 days.
When the ornaments lose their scent, dab on oil of cinnamon.
Note: Roll out dough on aluminum foil and move the foil onto the
cookie sheet. It will help the ornaments keep their shape.
Note: You can alter the amounts as long as you use about 7 oz ground spices to 1 c applesauce.

GRAHAM CRACKER HOUSES
What is needed:
Graham crackers
Meringue powder to make Royal Icing
Foil covered cardboard, approx. 8 x 11 -1 for each house
candy for decorating - some ideas are:
necco wafers
m & m's
licorice sticks - makes good woodpiles
gum drops
foil covered santas
spearmint leaves - make great trees
mini tootsie rolls - also make good wood piles
mini marshmallows - make good snowmen
non-pareils
white shredded coconut - makes great snow
and any other candy you think would look neat.
Directions for assembly:
Take the 2 whole crackers and from the middle line cut diagonally
from each side to the top center making the peak of the roof. A serrated knife works best. These are the sides. Using the Royal icing as glue, use generous amounts and glue a half cracker to each of the sides, repeat with other piece. You now have a roofless house.Take remaining 2 halves and glue on to create the roof. Glue each house in the center of a foil covered cardboard. These can be done days in advance.
Decorating:
Using the icing as glue decorate the house with the candies. Have fun and be creative!
