Cloudless sulphur Gulf FritillaryBuckeyeMonarch

Cloudless Sulphur Phoebis sennae flies over open areas feeding on nectar. They overwinter in the South and migrate North each year.

Gulf Fritillary Agraulis vanillae cannot survive cold and so spend the winter in thedeep South, but may migrate north in warm weather.They ingest poisons as caterpillars, and are distasteful to birds. Their brght colors advertise this to predators, who learn to leave them alone.

Buckeye Junonia coenia need areas of bare ground to bask in the sunlight and where males can perch while seeking mates.Their larval foods are plantains and snapdragons.Adults sip nectar.

Monarch Danaus plexippusis a milkweed butterfly, incorporating toxic materials from milkweeds into their bodies and becomng distasteful to predators.Monarchs migrate to southern states or to Mexico, where they winter over in huge aggregations.
