This relationship was established by John Alex Chartrand,great great grandfather of the historic Cahokia family whomarried the daughter of Pontiac and was later brutally murdered by one of his own tribe who was bribed by the English to commit the deed. Going still deeper into his distinguished ancestry, Mr.Chartrand claims that the very beginnings of his mother's side of the house were centered in a frenchman by the name of LaBonne, who accompanied Cloumbus to America on his voyage of discovery in 1942. This LaBonne married, the daughter of a Chillicothe Indian and settled in America. Tracing from the living Joseph Chartrand , back was his father Joseph Chartrand Sr. who was born in Prairie DuPont and would be 104 years old if living. Joseph Sr. called his oldest son Joseph Jr. to his bedside when the story of the family ancestry. Each oldest son throughout the centuries had taken the family story from their fathers in the manner. Chartrand's grandfather, Alex J. Chartrand, was born in Cahokia and would be 163 years old if living. His great grandfather Louis Chartrand was also born in Cahokia and would be 199 years old if living. The great-great grand father John Alex Chartrand is the member of the family who married Pontiac's daughter. He would be 234 years old if living. There is also an interesting family sequence on the maternal side of the Chartrand family. The mother Mary Labisure, was born in Cahokia and would be 106 years old if living. His great grand mother was also born in Cahokia and would be 209 years old if living. His great-great grand mother was born in Cahokia and would be 229 years old if living. Mr. Chartrand says that his grandfather, Labisure, was born in Cahokia and would be 156 years old and that the great grand father Labisure landed in America 197 years ago and was Judge at the historic old courthouse in Cahokia for one term.
