OLD TOMBSTONE IN WALTON COUNTY
Sent by Ann Lee Bussey
"SACRED to the Memory of
HUNDLEY BREWER who was born in the State of Virginia the 21st
Nov. 1767, and
departed this life the 31st of Oct. 1837. He was a just
benevolent and useful
citizen and lived a strictly moral life. Here let the body
wail in dust, The
resurrection of the just: Then with the soul united rise, To meet
the Savior
in the skies. Erected by his bereaved Wife."
I was so thrilled to find this grave, and this is how I learned
that he was
born in VA. and the date of his birth. The first listing of
him in Georgia
that I have been able to find was in the 1820 census. At
this time he was in
Clark Co. and thereafter in Walton.
His wife's name was Sarah, and their children were: James,
Nancy L. (Lee), Elizabeth (Heath), Sarah (Wilson), Littleton R.,
John C., and William R. Sarah's Will was written 17 Sept.
1852. She died in February, 1855.
Elizabeth Heath was my great great grandmother. My great
grandfather, William David, was her only child.
William R. was deceased at the time of the writing of Sarah's
will, and his children were Sarah Rice and Rebecca Ann. Nancy Lee
had one son, David A., and possibly others.
This is about all I know, but I am anxious to learn more about
Hundley Brewer in VA., and also Sarah's maiden name and her
family. I would love to hear from anyone who has any
information on this line. Thanks!
