Hey! Listen up!

The following letters are the only existing proof of the families of Pleasants Woodward and Nathaniel Jones of Middle Creek, Wake Co., NC.

Since these letters do not entirely agree, it is necessary to use both and compare them to other available records. The original letters are currently in my possession. There are no wills, deeds, court records, estate papers, newspaper obits, etc., etc. that can provide this information!

Letter written by Emma White Woodward for her father Andrew Jackson Woodward to her brother William Joseph Woodward in response to his request for information concerning his ancestry.

Letters written by Samantha Ann Smith (Currie) to William Joseph Woodward in response to his request for information concerning his ancestry.

Scan of the 1779 grant to Gilbert McKeithan for 100 acres in Bladen Co.

Note: This is a copy of a copy that was given to me by Betty Cappo who had traced over the writing on her copy to make it more readable. I have no doubt that the tracing she did is accurate. This is NOT a copy of the original which would be much fainter.

Scan of the 1789 Bladen Co deed from Alexander McKeithan to Drew Smith.

This land bears the exact same description as the land in the above grant; however, the deed states the land was granted to Alexander McKeithan. Obviously the land had been transferred from Gilbert McKeithan to Alexander McKeithan in some undetermined way. Gilbert was still living at the time of this 1789 deed, so the land could not have been inherited.

Scan of Colonial Court Record 120 which proves that Donald McKeithan was among the Scot immigrants transported to Cape Fear by Dugald McNeil in 1739
