The plaques are hand made and really seem to get the boys talking to their friends when they are seen on the boys wall. I have been told by several parents the boys really take pride in seeing their name on the plaques.
Except fot the Coveted Arrow of Light Award, the plaques are made from standard 1x8 pine. The edges are routed with a 1/2" round over bit. The molds are available from the scout office. (be shure to use either a non stick cooking spray or better yet a silicone mold release.)
Estimated cost of materials, less the $1.05 for the mold itself, is $2.90-$3.35 each. The time to complete is approx 8 hrs. [ an hour per week to be a leader?........we all know better now, don't we ] 8^)
Oddly enough, the most difficult to make and paint are the WEBELOS and plaster arrow of lite.
For that reason we have opted to make each recipient an Arrow of Lite plaque from a nicer grade of wood. Last year we used Oak,
this year we will most likely go with Cherry and Oak. The stock used was standard 1x4 with the lighter stained oak seen here was cut from 1/4" boards and nailed and glued. Cost of materials approx $3.50 - $4.00
