Though had
you no home, And, beloved master, Rather, hold me gently
I wish someone had given little Jesus a dog
As our Lord grew to manhood, His own faithful dog
It is sad to remember that Christ went away
And when Jesus rose on Easter morn,
Well, the lord has a dog now; I just sent Him mine,
I asked for strength that I might rear her perfectly;
If it should be that I grow weak,
You will be sad, I understand,
We've had so many happy years,
Take me where my need they'll tend,
Please do not grieve, it must be you,

A Pets Prayer My gift to Jesus

A Pet's Prayer
(by Beth Norman Harris)
Treat me kindly, my
beloved master, for no heart in all the world
is more grateful for kindness than
the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit
with a stick, for though I should lick your
hand between the blows, your patience and
understanding will more quickly teach
me the things you would have
me do.
Speak to me often,
for your voice is the world's sweetest
music, as you must know by the fierce wagging
of my tail when your footstep falls upon
my waiting ear.
When it's cold and wet,
please take me inside, for I am now
a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter
elements. And I ask no greater glory than
the privilege of sitting at your feet
beside the hearth.
I would rather follow you through ice
and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the
warmest home in all the land, for you
are my god and I am your
devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled
with fresh water, for although I
should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot
tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food,
that I may stay well, to romp and play
and to do your bidding, to walk by your side and stand ready,
willing to protect you with my life should your
life be in danger.
should the great Master see fit
to deprive me of my health or sight do not
turn me away from you.
in your arms as skilled hands grant me
the merciful boon of eternal rest- and I will leave
you knowing with the last breath I
drew, my fate was ever safest
in your hands.
My Gift To Jesus
(by Jane L.Sears)
as loyal and loving as mine
to sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes
and adore Him for being divine.
would have followed Him all through the day
while he preached to the crowds and made the sick well
and knelt in the Garden to pray.
to face death alone and apart,
with no tender dog following close behind
to comfort it's Master's heart.
how happy He would have been
as His dog kissed His hand and barked it's delight
for the One who died for all men!
the old pal so dear to me,
And I smile through my tears on this first day alone,
knowing they're in eternity.
When I got My New Dog
I was given weakness that I might feed her more treats.
I asked for good health that I might rest easy;
I was given a "special needs" dog that I might know nurturing.
I asked for an obedient dog that I might feel proud;
I was given stubborness that I might feel humble.
I asked for compliance that I might feel masterful;
I was given a clown that I might laugh.
I asked for a companion that I might not feel lonely;
I was given a best friend that I would feel loved.
I got nothing I asked for,
But everything that I needed.
IF IT SHOULD BE
(author unknown)
And the pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more that all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.
What is to come can hold no fears,
You'd not want me to suffer so,
The time has come to let me go.
And please stay with me until the end,
I know in time that you will see,
The kindness that you have done for me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Who had this painful thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
