Township title bar


In the U.S. a region, district or county is divided into Townships which are approximately six miles square, containing 36 sections of land as shown below in the diagram. Canada also uses this method of identifying parcals of land. In England, townships are used to subdivide a district of a large parish. Where as in Australia, a small town or settlement that serves as the business center of a rural area is known as a township.
