1. Stephen Marion2 Halbert (John1) was born Abt. 1806 (Source: Cherokee Co, Tx Records, Census 1850 lists age as 44.). He married Sarah.

Stephen Halbert's family, consisting of wife, Sarah, John, Mary Margaret, Frances, Joshua and Charles, immigrated to Sabine County, Tx, in 1837. He received a land grant on May 3, 1841 of 1280 acres of land in Sabine County. Stephen is listed in the Sabine County 1846 Tax Roll with a rendition of 875 acres, two horses, ten cattle, and a wagon and oxen, valued at $1,175.00. His taxes were $5.02.

Stephen purchased land in Cherokee County, Tx on May 1, 1847. The land of Stephen M. Halbert was sold in 1905. The interest in the land was divided into nine parts because he had nine children who lived to adulthood and were still living, or if dead, they themselves had living heirs.
