thanks to professor kennedy's book, virginia's eugenics program of the 1930's has come to greater attention. nevertheless, this kind of racial thinking is as strong today as ever before. The Pioneer Fund, a organiztion founded in the 30's and committed o eugenics and white supremacy, has sponsored a number of popular and "scientific" works. and the authors? they are not rural neo.nazis or klansmen, but academics at respected universities. feel free to compare recent works such as Why Race Matters and Race, Evolution and Behavior with edward reuter's Race Mixture (1931).

He was so dark-complected they refused to believe him when he clai ed to be Cherokee and was castrated. Lots of references to Cherokee, Black Irish and Scottish. Have the shovel teeth and the Anatolian bump on many members of the family. I would love to find connections to these names. E-mail me at any time. Thanks so mu h.

I saw that some Jackson's are Melungeon. I do have the eye fold, shoveled teeth and an unusual disease that may be FMF. I'm not sure of the Anatolian ridge. I have truly enjoyed your site and will visit again. How do I subscribe to the list? Thanks, Gail

I have just started this research.I have several families that have Indian 7 documented but unable to trace.Over 200 people were wanting alotments in OK.All these people told basic same story back in 1896 so I figure the was some truth to their clam. ALL were trying to go through my 5 or 6 g-grandmother Judith Coleman who married Abraham Baugh m ca 1750-60 Powhotan Co Va. Also have my Conner line (Black iresh)this is my maiden name.My greatg-father David Conner married Racheal Jane Cole of Ga. b 1834.Her father was Stephen Mark Cole b 1802 Ga. His father Mark Cole b NC 1780 and Sarah Ellerbe ca 1780 NC.I can not find out a t these folks .I have researched my Conner line for 25 yrs ,still having a time. I also have Martins Cherokee??WV,KY Hendricks Cherokee??SC,Miller Cherokee?? WV,Cox NC Cherokee?? Cody Cherokee?? NC,Blackburns Cherokee?? Cumberland Co.VA.I can get TO these people and Then they end.NO MOORE INFO. My children are FINNEY and they have the KNOTT. years ago I would make fun of my husbands FINNEY KNOTT. His family is from Franklin,Floyd and Henry co VA .His sir names are Napier ,Harris,Helms,Mayberry,Sims,Jamison and Finney. My ex-husband has black hair, dark reddish skin, blue eyes.I am dark (yellow cast) black eyes almond shaped eyes.My children and I have shuvel? teeth with the ridge.I have exta little things on the back of my teeth that almost feel like it could be another sm tooth, but they are flush to my top teeth.I don't know if that makes any since, but that is the only way to explain it. I don't have a clue what I am but I know there is something.ALL my life people have asked me what nationality I was. They would say,Indian,Spanish,Chinese,Jap,and several others. I didn't guestion any of it . I started asking questions several years ago.I started getting info from old folks ,hand written papers abt being Indian.Until my mothers death she would denie any Indian blood. Then she died and her brother told me alot of info that he had heard abt. our Indian people.I guess I will finish.Hope someday to find out who I am. Malinda Conner Fairall

I have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder (Behcet's Disease) which is more commonly found in peoples of Mediterranean decent. I have been doing some geneology research to determine where this link might be. I found no indication on my father's l ne. However, my maternal grandmother was Lula Mae Collier McPherson. She was born in Kentucky to John and Martha Collier. They later moved to Springfield, OH. When I would query my grandmother about her 'roots' and ask where her people came from, she ould always say, "We were always there." I thought that was peculiar then but never pursued it.

THANKS for your Page! I have been looking for my GrGrGr Grandmother Jane Lee (abt 1790 or 1800) for about 15 years. This Page may put me on a new road. I have Jesse Stuart's "Daughter of the Legend" (I Love It!!), several things by Bonnie Ball and othe s. I was hoping she was a Melungeon, but finally had to give up. Jane Lee has a daughter Margaret "Peggie" Lee, "Peggie" had a daughter Matilda, my Grandfather James Harvey "Bud" Lee's Mother. These women are always listed as "Lee" and there is NEVER a man listed in the household. Very Strange! But at least it allows you to find them! Jane Lee is from my Father's side, but I find her daughter Margaret "Peggie" and "Peggies" daughter Mary living in a household on my Mothers side, (ESTEP) in 1860, Jame Estep and Lucretia Fuller. I have no idea if they were just workers, indentured servents, or slaves. Thank You and Regards, Clinton Lee

Sumptner when it was fired on. I wonder if that has any significance. I have some Fox genealogy, as well as Collins family history. I'm hoping someone has Wi liam Collins info.

My Martins lived at Riner, Montgomery Co VA. The family legend is that they were part Cherokee, but wouldn't enrol because they were afraid of being removed. I don't know if they were Melungeons, but I recognize some of the physical characteristics, super titions and culture...Were the superstitions in common with non-Indians? Hoping to find clues to lead me to better answers.

I have been convinced for years that my first born father was not a full bloodied sibling of his brothers. He was dark, especially in the summer, brown eyed and black hair. His brothers were light complected and blue eyed. I have now found cousins of his, that we never knew, that are also dark. I have also found out about Meludgeons. Thank you, it explains a lot of questions I have had all these years.
