Designer Dogs is owned and operated by David and Barbara. We get a variety of dogs into the shop daily. Some of our clients are exactly what they should be - "Pampered Pets". Others are neglected to various degrees, some going far enough to border on abuse. We do our best to send the dogs out looking and feeling far better than when they arrived.

Below are some examples:

This cocker is kept in full coat. It requires daily combing and monthly grooming.

The feet are one of the most important areas to be done on a cocker.

The finished product! A completed grooming, given by David.

This Cocker is not cared for like the first. He has been left outside and not groomed for over a year. He is now so badly matted that he must be shaved to the skin. In this picture, his face and back have already been shaved. Notice that the coat remains matted into one piece, hanging from his body.

On closer inspection you can see that the matting is so severe that it has actually pulled the hair away from the skin, causing irritation. If he had been left unattended for very much longer a serious skin infection could have resulted.

This poodle is a regular client. He is well cared for. His coat has gotten long, but not at all tangled or matted.

The finished product! A Town and Country Clip, given by David.

Another well cared for Poodle who has grown out, but not allowed to become tangled or matted.

The coat on this poodle isn't as thick as it should be, so a longer clip is required in order to make her look good.

This little poodle has very sparse, incorrect coat.

With a proper clip, the illusion of more coat can be created, even though she still doesn't look like a pure bred poodle.

Helping others

When a client shows an interest in learning to groom their own dog, we take the time to help them learn correct clips and equipment.

This young woman wants to learn to groom her own cocker.

The cost of grooming equipment will be saved in 3 - 4 groomings.

She has already learned the importance of keeping the dog free of tangles and matts.

Now it's time to learn which scissors to use where.

And which clipper blade will give the desired length.

Confidence comes slowly.

We assure her that, even if she makes a mistake, the hair will grow back.

She's done a lovely job on her first attempt!
