School Profile:

Leland is a small rural community located in the far northern part of LaSalle county, and is in a remote geographical area of the state. We are considered a "bedroom community" with very little industry and low professional job rate. Agriculture still remains the backbone of the community, although a majority of the population must seek employment outside of Leland. Leland does not have a public library or community newspaper. The school program and educational opportunities are enhanced through the support of community organizations such as the Jr. Women's Club, the Leland Parent/Teacher Organization, the Leland Lions' Club and the American Legion Post #570 which provide financial assistance, equipment and educational materials.

Leland Community Unit School District #1 houses approximately 380 students. Instruction is delivered to grades K-12, special education and gifted students. The building provides adequate services for the population at this time. Classroom enrollment is approximately 29 students per room. At the high school level we are able to offer a wide variety of course selection options through educational cooperative arrangements with other schools, a half day vocational program in another building and distance learning classes via satellite.
