Never been to Oklahoma?

Then you probably don't know that 25% of Oklahoma is sub-tropical forest.
That it has four mountain ranges,(what, you thought it was dust bowl ?)
Did you know that there are more man-made lakes in Oklahoma than in ANY other state ?
That gives us over one million acres of surface water, and a shoreline that is longer than the Atlantic Coast AND the Gulf of Mexico combined ?!!!

In Oklahoma you can swim, ski, jetski, jump sand dunes, climb a mountain, soak on the beach, see a bikini contest , climb a cliff, PLAY the LOTTERY, dig up a dinosaur, take a balloon ride, raft down a river, attend nationally ranked air shows, ice skate, 4-wheel, sleep in a tent, get a fine education (we have 43 colleges and universities), see wetlands, swamps, lakes, rivers, creeks of all sizes, walk under a waterfall, parachute, and see some of the most spectacular weather the world will ever see, from dazzling light shows to the serene floating of quarter sized snowflakes.

There is a lot to see and more to do than you can do.

Fish for lunker bass, or rainbow trout. How about walleye? crappie? northern pike?and stripers (I caught a 23 pound striper one day and I don't even like to fish).

Hunt? Well, we have swamp rabbits, bobcat, quail, jack rabbits, dove, turkey, whitetail deer, mule deer, and are one of a very few states that can allow the hunting of prairie chickens. Don't be surpised if a whitetail deer just comes walking right up into your yard to meet the kids.

Want to watch birds? Come on down, from the hummingbird to the bald eagle, you will find them here. I've spent hours watching the majestic American Bald Eagles at Lake Eufaula, got a golden Eagle on video there.

And of course, you can see cattle, horses, real cowboys, real Indians (we have the largest Native American population of ANY state) or even attend a Cherokee celebration! More rodeos than you can ever see, from small town ropings to HUGE national rodeos. We've got country music galore ...) home grown blues and blues festivals, and we love our Rock and Roll, which you do too. (you'd be surprised how many rock people came from Oklahoma) In short, it's all here, and if you look patiently you can buy a house in the country near one of these giant lakes for less than 50 grand, in my town you can do it for less than 30.

In the future, as I get the time, I will SHOW you all the things that I have told you here. So come on back to this page and more importantly, do a search for Oklahoma on your favorite engine and come on down.

PORUM

Porum has a rich history, full of promise and excitement. That story is told in the links below and will be further dealt with in the future on this site. Let's put some rumours to rest, however, All the streets in Porum are paved. The hospital has been gone since the 50's.(the partial foundation is now a beautiful flower garden). The movie house was torn down in the 70's. The railroad left us in the 80's. Stark Brothers nursery shut down the Porum nursery in the 80's and with it, took the heart and soul out of the town. At this time the big grocery store is unoccupied, both restaurants are closed and while we may have an unusually large amount of trailer houses percentage-wise, the citizens are, for the most part law abiding people who DO care about our little town. There are no jobs in the immediate area, but we are working on that. We have a decent school system, they seem to be awfully proud of sports. There is a city park, a skating park, two large ball fields. Our streets are named and our houses are numbered....and, once again, all the roads are paved. We love our kids, and respect our elders, just like every one else. There may be a few who have their trash out in their yards, but generally we know what trash cans are and keep them hidden. We have the internet, we have satellite dishes, we have cable, we have great cell phone reception, and while there may be chicken houses dangerously close to our backyards, we still have civilized cookouts occasionally, and sometimes, we take a little walk down our wonderful hiking trail (it's paved as well) although you may want to bring some pepperspray for the pit bulls. We are Okies, through and through.

E-mail me with suggestions or questions and I'll get it on here.

If you have been reading this page for awhile then you know ALL my cemetery stuff was stolen, along with the hard copy back-ups and the laptop containing them. There is nothing I can do to help you out there with this. I DID recover the laptop, but ALL the data had been erased by one of our fine citizens, and the books were destroyed by another. It took me eight years to compile that work and I will get back on it now that I am finally retired. Until then, you are only making me more frustrated with your requests (I get about 5 a day) that I can do nothing about. SORRY.
