Hi, I'm Lisa.
My site will always be under construction.(o=
You will have to revisit and see the additions and changes. Don't forget to bookmark this page !!!!
Remember to refresh your page when you come back to see the changes and updates. ENJOY !!!!!!!
This web page is dedicated to my supportive husband, 2 Wonderful boys (ages 9 & 7), my great mother-in-law who is my MOM by choice, my cats who keep me entertained and of course MY BIRTH FAMILY. I have added a Picture Page. Currently I have pictures of my boys, a family picture and pictures of our pets (the boys idea). Someday I will add a reunion picture, if I have permission from my birth mom/family.
Here are my stats:
I am an adoptee (no longer) searching for my birth family. I was born March 30, 1969 at Misericordia Hospital (now Our Lady of Mercy) in the Bronx, NY. My birth mother (I assume) named me Mary Courtney (Courtney being the last name). She was 19, Irish/Catholic and worked for a bank. My birth father was 19, Italian-Irish/Catholic, a college student and worked at the family restaurant part time. They were engaged at the time of my birth but did not plan to marry until after my birth father finished college. I have been searched for 8 years.
I would love to be able to change all the laws for all of us adoptees and birth parents, they are not fair. We have to keep up the fight for equal rights. If we don't fight, nothing will ever change for us or for the adoptees and birth parents yet to come. I will never understand the way the government thinks, nor will I ever agree. We have to continue searching for what is rightfully ours, they can not tell us not to search for our inner selves. They can not tell us we can not have our heritage, our families, our links in life.
The first site to go to for NY search information is Sylvia's web site. You MUST check out her wonderful site, it was her site and mailing list that lead me to this moment. Sylvia is the owner of the NY Adoption List. There are great people on this list with lots of incredible information, support, tips, and also people who can help with your search. You can go to the list for help, or even if you just need to vent, they are all there to help each other. If you were born and/or adopted in NY you should join the NY list. Good luck.
Sylvia's NY Adoption Page
Here are some other sites that will help with your search, help you to decide to search (or not), give you lots of information and link you to some great information.
Ellen's, Reuniting Families has some of the best links for adoption. You have to check them out.
Another great site is SUNFLOWER Bmom Support Group, it is not just for bmom's. She has some really cute music for your listening pleasures. Alana has done a lot of work on this page, it deserves a good look. The links are very informative and numerous. There is something for everyone here. Enjoy the music. (((-:
This next site is not for the faint at heart. My husband has a hard time with 'that' word.....(o= He does not like it when I refer to myself as a 'BASTARD'. Bastard Nations, it will tell you what you need to know. It is a great organization to belong to. They don't play around, they get it done and are very serious about being BASTARDS. Look up the definition someday.
Has abuse been a part of your adoptive life???? It has been part of mine. I grew up being told "your birth mother should have had an abortion so our life would have been easier", and "we should have left you where we found you"....and the list goes on but I am not here to depress everyone. That is the past for me, but it is the present for some and the future for even more if this does not get more recognition. I know it is not that way with all adoptions, but it is for more than we all know. It is a growing problem for a lot of adoptees and no one is aware. Adoptees are supposed to be special, these things don't happen to them, shhhhh don't tell anyone it makes the a/parents look bad...........The only site, that I am aware of (PLEASE let me know of any more, I will add them), that touches on this is Angry Grandma's Adoptee's Resources, check it out.
Here is a list of others that I frequent:
Tylnan Home Page
Paper Wings
Adoption Triad Outreach Chat
NYS Library Genealogy Adoption
Paw Print to Sites This is my NEW Site Index. This page gives you a brief discription of each page and the link. Check it out if you don't want to browse through each individual page. Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
