        Meet Tabitha, Buttons, & Sammi

        Tabitha

Tabitha,or as we call her Tabby, was born on October 2, 1988. She is a black and white or "tuxedo" cat and wasn't supposed to live through the night when we found her.

At 3 weeks old her mother, who we later found out was a stray, was carrying her 3 kittens across a very busy street almost in front of where we live. All of a sudden we heard the tires of a car screach. My heart dropped; thinking my god a child, an animal, or what?? We hurried outside and in my deepest sorrow found the mother and 1 kitten dead. There were two others, one with a broken tail, still alive. We took them inside and called Animal Rescue for the dead mother and baby.

Tabby and her brother, who was all gray, were so badly flea infested that their fur was bloody. I was in tears. I called my vet and he told me what to do. I immediately did what he said and bathed her and blew her dry. Then we took an eyedropper and fed her. She was so so weak and small and her tail was broken. We did the same with her brother, but he died by the next morning. We tried to save him but he was not healthy or strong enough.

The next day we brought Tabby to the vets and he said that there was little hope of saving her but to keep doing what we had been doing. So every 2 or 3 hours I would get up and feed Tabby. When she was cold I put her in bed with me to keep her warm.

She is a fighter and the little kitten who wasn't supposed to live through the night had her yearly exam at the vets she was a beautiful 9 year old. She is very healthy, although she is loosing her teeth, but her skin, coat, balance, and everything are just fine. She still has a crocked tail because it healed that way but other than that one flaw she is perfect.

Tabby is a window cat, and loves the sun and to sit in our bay window. She doesn't like too many people but those she does like (especially Chris and her feline sister Buttons) she loves and ohhhhhh how she loves to tease the dogs. Our Tabby, our 1st furkid, the cat that never was supposed to live, did!

This year, 2 days before Tabby's 11th Birthday, on September 30, 1999, we recieved some news about Tabby, that we are dealing with right now. If you would like to read about this, and the updates please click here.

        Tabby's Story

        Buttons

Our Buttons, who was born on August 3, 1993, is a tiger cat. My daughter was going to the pet store one day with her friend to look at the animals. I don't like pet store animals but she would go there and look at them and play with them. The next thing I knew she was running into the house crying and yelling, Mommy Mommy help help I found this poor kitty in a car and a man said if I wanted her to take her.If not he was getting RID of her!! My daughter was hysterical. I told her to calm down. Buttons was only about 3 weeks as well and so, so tiny. I still remember,to this day, my daughter holding her and crying as she begged me to help. Buttons was not flea infested but very thin. We called the vets and brought her right in. He told us what to do and my daughter never left Buttons side. We fed her and she slept with me and then my daughter as she got older.

Buttons too was a fighter and just went to the vets who proclained her a very very healthy kitty. He did suggest that she go on a diet though. Buttons thinks she is a Shih-Tzu!! She lays like the dogs and is the same size as the dogs so I think she thinks she is one of them. She doesn't like to use the litter box,she uses the newspaper!! She has never ever hissed or growled at anyone and is the most loving cat ever. Oh does she love her belly rubbed!!!

All I can say is that I am so so glad that we have our 2 cats. It is so sad how many are abandoned and left to die, litter after litter. The horror and pain these animals must endure when they are homeless and unloved is just to painful to even imagine. I encourage you to please have your pets spayed or neutered. Both of our girls are! I am so glad I was able to do what I had to do. Tabby and Buttons were among the lucky few who found loving homes with people who care.

        Sammi

Since the loss of our Dear dear Tabby girl, (April, 19th, 2000) my heart was so broken and I cried for weeks,,,,,( she was 11 years old)

Yes, I still had my other 7 canine furkids and Buttons our only feline, but something was missing, something was empty, something was gone,, and we knew it was our Tabby, but also the love we have for animals, and in the back of my mind the love I have, and my husband Dee has to love and care for animals who dont have a home, or are not loved..

Anyway,,, I recieved a call from my vet, about a month after Tabby passed away,, she was very very saddened about Tabby and was hesitate to call me,, as she had some news she didnt know how I would react to, but then couldnt get me off her mind and heart for afew days, so she called me,,,,

She was the one who operated on our dear Tabby and also when it came time for her to go to Rainbow Bridge helped her,, and us,,, in her passing,,,, She is a very loving vet and I am so thankful to have her and her compassion..

Well, it was the end of May, and she called me to explain why I had been on her mind and in her heart..( this litter was born about, May 3rd,, the closest the vet could estimate)

The beginning of May, a litter of kittens, 3 girls and a boy, days old, was found on the side of the road right near the vets ,,, with the poor mommy cat dead, she was hit by a car,,, :-((( The vet and some of the techs took the kittens in right away, and took care of them, fed them, tested them,, and then when it came time to find homes these little ones had to go to special homes, because they were so special,,, and because the "accident" happened at the road, a busy road, where the vet was, they felt that these babies were special to them!!

Well, in my story about how we got Tabby, and Buttons, both who were rescues,, was amazing,,, so much about how we "got" Tabby was so much related to this litter of kittens,,,, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,oh no!!!!!!! not me,, not again!!!!!! it was too too soon!!!!!!! Tabby was only gone about 2 months!!! I couldnt go through this again!! nope I said,,, and thank you,,, but the vet said,, ok, thank you,,,, we will find them homes and will be in touch,,,

Well, I went to visit my son Chris in Florida, and my new grandaughter Alexia, and my daughter in law Kim with my son Josh and Melissa,,,, for a week,,, and during that week, part of me was hoping the whole little would find a wonderful home,, new parents,,,, because I WAS NOT going to get another furkid,,,, there are wonderful homes out there,, and I knew they would all find love!! I was sure all would be adopted by the time I returned home.

So I returned from my visit on July 4th,,,, and all the kittens had found homes expect one little girl,,, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my!! yep!! one had no home,,, Now keep in mind I had not seen these little ones only pictures and I fell "in love" with them all!!

Well my daughter Jacquie begged me,, Mom!! mom!! let's just go and look ,,, just look!! hahahaha, Me! go and look,,, oh my,, well we did,, and when we looked at the little one,, as i held her she climbed up on my shoulder and was laying behind my neck!!! that was it!! I was done!! she WON my heart and my daughter said to the vet,,, We will take her home!!! yikes!! oh my gosh!!!!

Well, 2 weeks later, after her shots, and exam and a clean bill of health, Sammi, ( yes we named her Samanatha in a small tribute to Tabby, Tabitha, from the show "Bewitched" came home and became part of our family!!

Buttons who missed Tabby terribly, sat in the window and cried, didnt eat,, and was "lost" Took to Sammi right away!! We all were concerned about this, because Buttons is 7 years old and didnt want her to feel "replaced" but she took Sammi under her "paw" and just loved her,,,,

She got spayed at 6 months old and is so so lovable and affectionate!!

Today, 9 months later, Sammi is part of our family,,, and WE all know, deep down inside, that Tabby sent a precious gift, a gift of love, with fur, and no mommy, like Tabby didnt have, to become part of our home,,,,

Tabby is more now than ever a wonderful part of our memories and i shall always love her, and be thankful for bringing "Sammi" to us!!

        SWEET LITTLE KITTY

        Hold on to your heart,
        this is only the start...
        She was sent from above~
        from the Tabby you love!
        As a sign so divine,
        she comes at a time...
        Yes you are sane,
        and your heartache will wane.
        So open your heart
        to this last little kitty,
        her momma is gone,
        Oh what a pity!
        She has kisses to give,
a loving life left to live...
        Please open your heart,
        just a small part,
        to another small kitty...
To turn away would be such a pity!
        Buttons and Tabby,
        they both will agree,
        there's room in your heart,
        it's easy to see!!!
