Notes for BENJAMIN HOLBERT , JR.: Vernon Holbert wrote:

Benjamin Jr., born ca 1830; married Mary Carroll May 27, 1852 in Cherokee County, Georgia. They lived next door to [his brother] Jacob and Nancy HOLBERT in 1860. The family was soon to meet with tragedy. While serving in the Confederate Army, Benjamin Jr. became ill; was allowed to go home to Pickens County; where he died in July of 1862. Mary died [of childbirth complications] in October of the same year.

The children of Benjamin Jr. and Mary were: Elizabeth, born ca 1853; Stephen, born ca 1855; Sarah, born ca 1858; and Cicero T., born ca 1862. In the 1870 Cherokee County Census, Sarah and Cicero T. are listed in the home of their Grandfather, Jesse Carroll. Cicero T. married Mary Keeter February 17, 1881 and Sarah married Martin Cagle January 3, 1878. Sarah and Martin, and some of their children, are buried at Sardis Baptist Church in Cherokee County. It is unknown to the author what became of Elizabeth and Stephen, and where Cicero T. reared his family.
