Descendants of Jacob G. Holbert

Generation No. 1

1. JACOB G.3 HOLBERT (BENJAMIN2, JOHN HAUBERT/1) was born March 27, 1826 in Rutherford Co, NC, and died February 15, 1906 in Nelson, GA1. He married NANCY LOUISE DIMSDALE May 08, 1851 in Cherokee Co, GA, daughter of HIRAM DIMSDALE.

Vernon Holbert writes (April 1998):

Four of Benjamin and Charity's children made their way to Cherokee/Pickens County Ga. beginning in 1850. Sophia came first. She married Steven Cowart - half brother to Hiram Dimsdale. Her brothers Benjamin and Jacob followed. Jacob married the daughter of Hiram Dimsdale here in Ga. I believe that John (my gg grandfather) may also have come here at that time; but, returned to NC when Rebecca died. He came to stay between 1870 & 72. That's a brief of how we came to be in Jasper, Georgia.

From Vernon Holbert:

Jacob, born March 1825, married Nancy Dimsdale May 8, 1851 in Cherokee County, Georgia. This family was living in the Jerusalem District of Pickens County's in 1860. By 1870 they were living near Nelson, Georgia, in an area which is still known as the Holbert Bottoms. Jacob was a Baptist Minister, the minutes of several churches in the area record that Jacob preached at their Saturday Conference Service. Their children were; Benjamin (David), born ca 1852, married Mary S. Richards January 1, 1877; Montry, born ca 1855, married Thomas Dowdy January 5, 1873; and Hiram M., born ca 1857; Robert L, born ca 1861; Margaret, born ca 1864, not sure if this is same Margaret who married M.L.C. Bearden in 1898; Mary, born ca 1866; and Nancy L. born ca 1868. Many of this family are buried in the Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery

Vernon writes: David Benjamin-Homer Eli Holbert were sons of Jacob Holbert--Susan was David's wife-she was also a 1st cousin to my g grandmother Mary Richards Holbert and Marcus Jefferson's wife Salena.

ii. MONTRY HOLBERT, b. Abt. 1855; m. THOMAS DOWDY, January 05, 1873, Georgia.

iii. ROBERT L. HOLBERT, b. Abt. 1861.

iv. MARGARET HOLBERT, b. Abt. 1864, may have married MLC Bearden in 1898 in GA.

v. MARY HOLBERT, b. Abt. 1866.

vi. NANCY L. HOLBERT, b. Abt. 1868.

vii. HIRAM M. HOLBERT, b. Abt. 1857.
