James Cordis 'Cordie' Bastin (30 March 1905 - 6 June 1976)
Eunice Iva 'Ivy' (Bastin) Barton (13 Nov 1895 - 11 Jan 1985)

This photo of Cordie Bastin and his sister, Iva 'Aunt Ivy' (Bastin) Barton, was taken at the annual family picnic at Barren River State Park, Glasgow, Barren County, KY, in the summer of 1975.

'Cordie' and 'Ivy' were children of James Thomas 'Tom' Bastin, and Nancy Eugenia 'Jennie' (Smith) Bastin .

Aunt Ivy was very fun-loving and very much kid-oriented. She always had time for any and all activities with any of the children in the family. She usually visited Cordie and Ilene every summer, typically staying for a week or two. On these visits, she would often be the favorite playmate of her great nieces and nephews, joining in some rather amazing play activities for her age :-) She and her husband, Uncle Jess (Jesse Lee Barton), lived in Bethpage, TN, south of the Kentucky-Tennessee border and north of Nashville. They were married on January 26, 1913 in Kentucky, but moved to Tennesee in the 1930's from Kentucky. Uncle Jess kept bees, and Aunt Ivy knew how much I (Gary Bastin, as a kid) enjoyed the honey with the honeycomb. She always brought a Mason jar of honey for me every year when she would visit my grandparents, Cordie and Ilene! Aunt Ivy remained young at heart all her life. After Uncle Jess died in 1983, and when she was well into her 80's, she even became rather fond of a Walkman tape player. She liked being able to adjust the volume until she could hear it well. Her favorite tapes were the old-time tunes of her youth. She died at the age of 89 in Gallatin, TN with her headphones on, while listening to music on her Walkman.

'Cordie' and 'Ivy' were Great Great Great Grandchildren of Thomas and Hannah Bastin of Caswell County, NC. (Photo courtesy of Glen and Edith Bastin. Thanks!)
