Here is a photo of Sarah Jane Pointer (1818 - 1885), the wife of Major Brockman Bastin. It appears to have been taken about 1880 (based on her age) on their farm near Hillsdale, Miami, KS. Note the windmill, barb-wire fence and farm buildings in the background, and the absence of any farm machinery. If you look closely, you can see she's wearing wire rimmed glasses.
