Welcome To

We are located in Ocala Florida
Horse Capital Of The World

Oak Knoll is located in Meadow Wood Farms, a friendly community of "mini-estates" and small horse farms located in the hamlet of Cotton Plant in northwest Marion County.

Our deed restricted community contains 1800 acres of wooded rolling terrain which is interspersed with rich green pastures and approximately 17 miles of tree shaded roads. This pristine setting allows our residents the freedom to walk, jog, ride a bicycle, or to enjoy their equestrian skills away from the perils of city life.

"BOCEPHUS"

Our community is not without its special history. There were others who preceded the Context Corporation's development of Meadow Wood Farms in October, 1971.

This land was first inhabited by the Seminole Indians who were driven out by the Spaniards. After Florida became a U.S. Territory, American troops erected a fort to further subdue the Seminoles. Fort Hook was located near what is now Needles Drive and has been designated a historic site.

"Birdie"

The settlers in this area grew cotton, giving birth to their town of Cotton Plant which was located near the present intersection of SR40 and CR328. It might be interesting to note that some of this land sold for 80 cents to $1.30 per acre during the "Great Depression" of the 1930's.

In the early 30's phosphate was mined here in Meadow Wood Farms as evidenced by some of the phosphate holes and piles of phosphate rock which are still found on some properties. Mining was abandoned in the late 1930's because the phosphate was of such poor quality and much too expensive to extract. From that point on Meadow Wood Farms evolved into an area to graze cattle for beef.

Meadow Wood Farms Property Owners Association is dedicated to the preservation of the standard of living which makes our community beautiful, desirable, and a safe place to live.
