Introduction to Bible Themes

What is the GRAND theme of the Bible? Most Christians would say, "The plan of salvation is the main theme of the Bible."

Yet, within this theme we can find many others. The Bible is rich with treasure for our spiritual uplifting. This treasure is only found by the careful searcher. Unless the Spirit who inspired the Bible writers is guiding us in our search, the hidden treasures will remain beyond our grasp.

Knowing the various names for this book may help us in our search:

NOTE: (All texts are taken from the New King James Version.)
  • THE WORD OF GOD

"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."--Psalm 119:105.

  • THE HOLY SCRIPTURES

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." --1 Timothy 3:16, 17.

    THE LAW AND THE TESTIMONY

"To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." --Isaiah 8:20.

The Living Word of God

Let's look at two texts which reveal a little about the Godhead. One is in the Old Tesatment, the other in the New Testament.

  • "Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. . ."--Genesis 1:26.

  • "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. . . . And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." --John 1:1-5, 14.

The themes in the Bible are vital to our salvation. As we study them, God enlightens our minds through the third member of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit.

  • "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."--Matthew 28:18-20.

  • "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me." --Psalm 51:10,11.
