These instructions are given assuming that your mIRC program is located on your c: drive and you only have one drive. If this is not the case then substitute your drive letter where you see c:
I am also using version mIRC 5.6
Step One:Create a Sounds Folderand copy .wav files into it.
In Windows 95:
Click on the Start button/Programs/Windows Explorer
In Windows Explorer:
In the left panel:double click on - DISK1_VOL1(C:)
This will open the contents of your drive. Look down the alphabetical list and...
In the left panel: Double click on the mirc folder
This will open the contents of your mirc file in the right panel.
On the toolbar Click File
Click New
Click Folder
In the right Panel, at the bottom of the list, you will see a folder labeled New Folder
Click on the New Folder
Type Sounds to replace the highlighted New Folder
This new sounds folder will now be listed as a subfolder under mirc in the left panel.
In the left panel, double click on Sounds folder
On the Toolbar click on Tools/Find/Files or folders.
Type *.wav in the box called Named:
Pull down the Look in: window and highlight the C:/ directory
Click Find Now.
You will see all your .wav files in the window below.
Highlight all the files you are going to copy to your folder by...
Holding down the Ctrl-key and clicking on the files you want.
Now hold down the Ctrl-key and left mouse button and drag the files into the right empty panel of Windows Explorer
Once you release the mouse button, all the selected files will be copied into the folder.
Step Two:Set up Mirc sounds
Open Mirc
Click the
general options icon.
Go to
Sounds/Requests tab
Put a
check mark in all the boxes as shown below.
If the Path in the Location of Wav files and Location of midi files is not correct:
Click on the
"Location of waves:" bar
A popup window with the mIRC Wav directory tree in it appears
Under Mirc, you will see the sounds folder
Click on the
folder to highlight it
[Don't worry - you should not see the contents of the sounds folder here]
The path at the top will now say c:\mirc\sounds
Click
OK in the mIRC Wav directory
Now your location bar should say c:\mirc\Sounds
Click
OK in the mIRC Options Directory
Step Three:Setting File Associations
In Mirc
Click on the DCC icon OR
Click on General Options
Click on DCC/Folders
Does your window look like this one?
If
Ignore file types is not checked then check it.
If the files listed here are not listed then list them.
Click OK
Always click OK after making any changes in mIRC. This "SETS" the change.
Next click on the drop down menu in the DCC Get Folders: window - that black
triangle next to the DCC Get folders: window.
Highlight the words *.wav, *.mid by clicking on them.
They will now appear in the DCC Get folders: window.
Click on Edit.
Check to see that the path in the Into This Directory is c:\mirc\sounds
If NOT then you need to Edit
Click on the
bar under Into this Directory:
Under Mirc you will see the sounds folder.
Click on the folder to highlight it
Click OK
Click OK in that mIRC Extension Directory.
Click OK on the mIRC DCC Get Directory window
Click OK on the mIRC Options window
Step FourSetting DCC Options
Next go to mIRC Options and to DCC/Options and fill in the boxes as shown below.
