Hope for Conquering Discouragement
1.Deal with any discouragement that could be related to personal sin by
confessing it to God and turning from it.(1 John 1:9; 1 Timothy
1:18-19).
2.Identify and cast down the discouraging lies of Satan ; combat him
with the Truth of God’s Word in the power of the Holy Spirit.
(Ephesians 6:16; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6).
3.Encourage your heart in the Lord through the promises in His word
and through remembering his love and faithfulness.
4.Remove yourself from discouraging people; surround yourself with
wise,courageous and loving people.(Deut. 20:8; 2 Corinthians 1:3-7;
Proverbs 13:20).
5.Overcome your pride and ask others to help you and to pray for
you.(Galations 6:1-2; 1 Thessalonians 5:11)
6.Focus on your position in Christ;know your spiritual resources in
Jesus Christ our Lord....Remember that He has already won the
victory.
7.Remember that God can use any situation for His
glory and your good.(Romans 8:28-29)
Hope in Running the Race
Our Christian life can be viewed as a cross country run,
where the
goal is to patiently and persistently run the
course
which God has set for each of us.
(Galations 6:9)says,
” And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season
we shall reap, if we faint not.”
(Hebrews 12:1-3) speaks of our race:
” Wherefore seeing we also are
compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every
weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience
the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that
was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down
at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself,
lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds”.
We can have hope in running the race by:
1. Making our relationship with Jesus (the author and finisher of our faith) the first priority
in life. (Compare Jesus’ comments to Martha and Mary in( Luke 10:38-42)).
“Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and
a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his
word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said,
Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her
therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and
troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall
not be taken away from her”.
2.Being motivated by love for Jesus and for other people, rather than selfish ambitions.
3.Fixing our gaze on our goal,Jesus Christ, while not comparing ourselves to others in
the race.
4.Remembering our Future Rewards....We are not running this race in vain !!!
(1 Corinthians 15:57-58) states,
”But thanks be to God, which giveth us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not
in vain in the Lord”.
5.Laying aside every weight and sin that might entangle us during our
race.
6.Waiting on God to supply His power to both run and perservere in the
race.
(Psalms 37:23-24,39-40):
“The steps of a good man are ordered by
the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly
cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand”...But the salvation of
the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And
the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the
wicked, and save them, because they trust in him”.
And , (Isaiah 40:28-31) reminds us,
”Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard,
that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth,
fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth
strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall
utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they
shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they
shall walk, and not faint”.
7.Accepting the difficult parts of the race as being part of the course which God has
set before us.
(Romans 8:28),
“And we know that all things work together for
good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his
purpose”.
