9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday
and 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Air Force History and Traditions
Museum
Orville Wright
Drive, Lackland Air Force Base. Featuring aviation history, the
Traditions and History Museum maintains a collection of rare airplanes
and their components. Forty-three aircraft are displayed around
the base and the components date back to World War II and vary
from engines to machine guns. Free admission. The museum and gift
shop is open Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 am-4:45 pm; closed on Sundays,
Mondays, New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Federal

Buckhorn Saloon & Museum

Founded in 1881 by the Freidrich Family, The Buckhorn Saloon & Museums, have grown into an internationally renowned tourist attraction showcasing the Buckhorn Sloon, Hall of Horns, Hall of Fins, Hall of Feathers, Hall of Texas History Wax Museum and the O.Henry House. Cowboy Museum
209 Alamo Plaza (78205). A real cowboy museum. The only one in
town. Visit a replica of a Western town and see how the people
of the Old West lived. Many artifacts to see in this exciting
walk through the history of the Old West. Cowboy collectibles

Guenther House
205 East Guenther (78204). Located in the King William Historic
District, the Guenther House is a museum of historic items related
to the development of Pioneer Flour Mills. Offers a river mill,
impressive collection of Dresden plates, gift shop and restaurant.

Hangar 9/Edward H. White Museum
Brooks Air Force Base. Hangar 9 is the oldest aircraft hangar
in the Air Force. It houses the Museum of Flight Medicine, which
contains exhibits concerning the history of the base, the development
of manned flight and the evolution of aerospace medicine; and
the Flight Nursing Annex, which is dedicated to the history of
flight nurses. Open 8:00 am-4:00 pm Monday-Friday. Group tours
(15 or more persons) will be conducted 9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday-Friday.

Hertzberg Circus Museum
210 Market St. (78205). (Located on the corner of South Presa
and West Market streets.) This unusual museum contains more than
20,000 items of Big Top memorabilia, including a priceless collection
of antique circus posters, Tom Thumb's carriage and an intricately
detailed scale model of the three ring circus. Weekend special
events include: classic film series, jugglers, mimes and magicians.

Institute of Texan Cultures
801 S. Bowie (78205). (Located in HemisFair Park.) The Institute
is a museum for the interpretation and assimilation of Texas history
and folk culture. A part of the University of Texas at San Antonio,
it is an experience of sight, sound, and touch where contributions
from 28 different ethnic groups are displayed. The Dome Show is
a multimedia exhibit using 36 screens to present dramatic events,
places and faces of Texas. Dome shows are presented at 10:15 am,
12:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm. Guided tours available. Hours:

McNay Art Museum

The former estate of Marian Koogler McNay is a private museum
containing a varied collection of post-impressionist paintings
(Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Matisse, O'Keefe, Goya, Renoir and
Bourdelle), early New Mexican arts and crafts, plus gothic and
medieval collections. A highlight of the McNay is its charming

Pioneer, Trail Drivers and Texas
Rangers Memorial Museum
3805 Broadway (78209). Review the Texas Rangers' exciting history
from their inception in 1823...guns, photographs, sketches, accounts
of individual services and equipment of many famous Rangers honoring
the legacy of the Texas Rangers and their role in the heritage
of Texas and America. A Ranger Ring of Honor is being developed
and dedicated to those courageous Texas Rangers who lost their
lives in the line of duty. Displays from pioneer period and cattle
drives. Developed by the Former Texas Ranger Foundation, Pioneers
of Texas Assoc. and the Old Trail Drivers Assoc. of Texas. Located

over 225 lifelike figures from Hollywood, Horrors, History and
Religion. Ripley's Believe It or Not! exhibits over 500 one of

San Antonio Children's Museum

cultural diversity of San Antonio can be gained in a new hands-on
museum targeted to appeal to children ages 2-10. Interactive educational
exhibits are being designed to engage all of a child's senses,

San Antonio Museum of Art
200 W. Jones Ave. (78215). The blend of glass elevators, skylights
and skywalk in the former Lone Star Brewery's castle-like building
is a sight no visitor to San Antonio can afford to miss. Art collections
range from ancient art to the most contemporary, including magnificent
Greek and Roman sculpture, and Latin American folk art. The Asian
section has been expanded to include Asian sculpture as well as
Chinese, Japanese and Korean Art. The museum is listed in the
National Register of Historic Places. Open every day except Thanksgiving

Spanish Governor's Palace
Labeled "the most beautiful building in San Antonio"

the officals of the Spanish Province of Texas.
The Steves Homestead Museum
509 King William (78204). Located in the King William Historic
District, this Victorian French Second Empire design three-story
home was built for Edward Steves, in 1876, and has been furnished
in a late nineteenth century style. The River House, a one-story
brick structure located at the rear of the property, housed the
first natatorium (inside swimming pool) in San Antonio. The Carriage
House was built in 1875. This two-story frame and stone building
was used for storage. The Servants Quarters was built around 1877.
The Steves Homestead has been maintained since 1954 as a historic
house museum, and is open daily, 10:00 am-4:15 pm. Admission:

Texas Transportation Museum
11731 Wetmore Road, in McAllister Park, (78247). Museum filled
with antique pedicabs, horse drawn and gas powered vehicles, three
model railroads, technology and physics displays. Train rides
Sunday afternoons from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm with donation. Static display
of business, Pullman and steam locomotive. See train station,

U.S. Army Medical Department Museum
Located at the corner of Harry Wurzbach and Stanley Road at Fort
Sam Houston (78234). The museum was established with the Medical
Field Service School at Carlisle Barracks, PA., in 1920 and transferred
to Fort Sam Houston with the School in 1946. The museum collection
consists of Army medical equipment (including captured medical
equipment from Germany, Japan, Russia, China and Vietnam), uniforms,
artwork, photographs, and scale models. The museum is also assembling
a collection of restored and replica ambulance vehicles which
will go on exhibit in the new museum building with a hospital
railroad car as an outdoor exhibit. The museum has a significant
collection of American prisoner of war memorabilia and equipment
which illustrates the continuing care and "service above
self", the foundation of Army medicine. Museum hours are

Witte Museum
3801 Broadway (78209). A city landmark for 70 years, this vibrant
regional museum features history, science, the humanities, exciting
hands-on exhibits of Texas history, natural science and anthropology,
changing exhibits and family programs. Permanent exhibitions include
"Texas Wild: Ecology Illustrated," focusing on the ecological
diversity of the state's seven natural areas. A walk-through diorama
recreates the south Texas thornbrush and its wildlife, including
javelina, armadillo, and the endangered jaguar. "Ancient
Texans: Rock Art and Life ways Along the Lower Pecos" focuses
on the culture and cave paintings of a hunter-gatherer society
that flourished in Texas 4000 years ago. The museum also includes
an EcoLab of live Texas animals, and outdoor Butterfly and Hummingbird
Garden and three restored historic homes. Open every day except
