Love in the Bible, Part 3 In the past two studies, we have gotten a glimpse of what the Love of God means.One of the things that I would like to mention is that the purpose of showing how different God’s love is from human love, is not to amplify our shortcomings. Not in a way that causes us to feel worthless, or inadequate.
I have been trying to figure out how to put this in simple terms, and I remembered something someone said once to me that might just do that very thing. :*)
“If God were small enough for me to understand, He wouldn’t be big enough for me to worship”
Romans 3:23 says: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Once we realize this, it helps us to keep from becoming too “self absorbed” in what we “aren’t”. Because that can be just as detrimental to our growth. Amen?
For example, do you know why God had Moses give the children of Israel the Ten Commandments?
To bring them into awareness that there was sin. To show us what sin was. What was not pleasing in God’s eyes and what wasn’t.
How do I know if I am doing anything wrong unless I am told? You see?
If I am living life the way I think is good, and no one tells me any different, as long as it is good in my sight, then it’s okay right? Of course not.
Man fell in the Garden of Eden. And the way I see it is if God wanted to, He could have just stopped things right there. Ended the human race right then, before it really even had a chance to begin. But He loved Adam and Eve, His creation.
So the same goes for what we have been looking at. When we compare our values, our way of looking at things to God’s ways. We see the differences. We see how God loves, and how pure and good it is and it gives us a guideline for ourselves. We can learn from it, or we can continue to stay in our way of thinking. Or, decide that the price is too high that we are comfortable in our sin and stay there. God loves us. And He wants the best for each of us, as His children.
God says to us in Isaiah Chapter 55……
Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I tell you, that I am GLAD that He doesn’t think like I do. I can really make a mess of my life all by myself. :*) God also tells us in Isaiah Chapter One….
Isa 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
He makes it clear what He wants for us, and from us. You see in verse 17 though? What is the first word there ? Learn. Learn to do well. It doesn’t say “poof, you are instantly perfect” “Don’t ever make a mistake again” It says learn. What do we do with our children? What did our parents do for us?
They taught us. That is what God wants to do with us. Teach us the right path to walk in. Teach us the differences from right and wrong. Teach us how to live a righteous life. Teach us how to be pleasing in His sight.
He is willing to take the time to show us what is best for each of us individually. Our responsibility is to be willing to learn. Praise His mighty name for loving us so much that He is willing to take the time to mold us into the likeness of Himself through Christ Jesus.
And oh what a promise that is there…. Tho your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow. WOO HOO!!! Thank you Lord~! Have you ever tried to cover up a red stain on anything? It doesn't work. It will still leave a shadow of what was there. But when you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. He is the ultimate stain lifter!!
Next time, we are going to start looking at what Faith is. What it means, and who were some of the people that the bible speaks about who had faith. And how to apply those life lessons to our own life.
Father we praise you! We cannot thank you enough for your Love for us. How tenderly you treat us even in your discipline. Help us to realize that love you have for each of us. To accept it completely, and to learn from Your word. That the answers to many of the things we go through are right there. Please help us to have teachable hearts, to be willing to accept what you have for us. In Jesus precious name. Amen.
