Jay : The Master at our Helm

Our number One Honorary Charter Chipster

As the Forum Master of our Chips Newsgroup, it was Jay who not only provided the Chipsters with a safe haven, but who guided us through our initial growing pains.

As a group, when we first found each other, we were cyber-babes in the woods. Showing the patience of a saint, Jay introduced us to whole new concepts such as uploading and downloading, what winzip was, where to get it and how to use it, the superiority of Paint Shop Pro for our map creations and the basics of netiquette. The latter was done by example.

Each time our board was moved, Jay took extra measures to be sure a new home was provided for us and took us by the hand (via his shortcuts) to show us how to get there. While Jay has many other Newsgroups he's responsible for, he's always let us know he's there for us.

The Charter Chipsters are very appreciative of all the Jay has done, and continues to do for us. Thank you Jay.

A short bio of Jay that I borrowed from the msn Compuer Games Forum's page :

Jay has served as the Computer Games Forum Manager for the Microsoft Network (MSN) since September, 1995 and is an active member of the Association of Online Professionals.

Prior to that, he spent 16 years in broadcast television, working as a Writer-producer and Creative Director at CICT-TV in Calgary. Since going freelance in 1990, he's written columns and game reviews for magazines like Omni , Compute and Computer Gaming World ; alternated roles as Managing Editor and Games columnist for LiveWire (GEnie's online Multimedia Magazine); reviewed game sites for Lycos The Point ; edited a player newsletter for GemStone III (Simutronics online multiplayer RPG); worked as a Sysop in GEnie's LiveWire and Multimedia RoundTables, taught an Advanced Writing course at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology , and served on the Advisory Board for Mount Royal College for several years. Not necessarily in that order.

He has been working and playing with computers for nearly 15 years -- from the Commodore-64 in the early 80's, to the Amiga in 1985, and IBM -compatibles in 1989 and has been an active participant in online communities for over a decade, starting with small local BBS services in 1986. He also found time to take a series of courses in Electronic Publishing and Production Management on the Macintosh.

Jay is a fourth-generation Canadian, born and raised in the prairies and foothills of Alberta. Married 24 years (to the same woman); proud father of two daughters ages 13 and 16, and adoptee of a large, grey Maine-Coon cat.
