Davis Family of Rehoboth, MA, by John William Davis, Governor of RI - 1887 - 1888 and
1890 - 1891., typescript copy in Providence RI Historical Society. [Note: Nothing has been found to connect Richard with either Henry or Edward Bullock] Richard Bullock of Rehoboth, 1644, and Some of His Descendants, by Hon. J. Russell Bullock (1815 - 1899), a handwritten manuscript in the Providence RI Historical Society
Library. Letter from Chauncey Bullock of Stanstead, Quebec to his brother, Jesse, dated 30
December 1867.
"Records show that Richard Bullock was born in England in 1622, that he came with two Older brothers, Henry and Edward to Salem MA. at or about A.D. 1635. He remained with or
near the two brothers until he attained his age of majority, i. e. 21, and came into possession
of his patrimony, which was a sum of between 200 and 300 pounds sterling. Considering the
fact that his education was more advanced than most of his fellowmer, and his having been
chosen clerk of the Town of Rehoboth, it is fair to infer that his family in England were of the
more substantial class of their time."
"It has been stated that Richard was a son of Henry of Salem, who died there in 1652, but enry came in 1630 on the ship "Abigail" with his wife, Susan and only children, Henry, Mary and Thomas and in his will, he names only one child, Henry. Of Henry's children none bear the name of Richard.
Edward Bullock of Dorchester came from London 1635, had a wife, Elizabeth. His will
probated 1656 names only his wife and daughter, Hannah (Johnson).
Therefore, no known record exists of Richard's birthplace or or his parentage, or of the vessel
in which he came over."
[Note: Chauncey was an educated man and held several public offices in Quebec.]
Baptismal Records of Pitchford, Shropshire, England:
"Richard Bullock, son of John Bullock was baptized 26 May 1622."
[Note: This really needs more research!!]
Genealogical & Personal History of Northern Pennsylvania,by John W. Jordan LL.D, Vol. III, NY, Lewis Historical Publishing Co. 1913.
"The American Ancestor was Richard Bullock, born in the county of Essex, England 1622, died in Rehoboth MA 22 Nov 1667. Two brothers came to America with him, one of them settling in Virginia."
[Note: Is it possible that he was closely related to the southern branch of the Bullock family]Manuscript SGBUl10, compiled by John W. Davis, Atty, of Providence, RI around 1897. Copy in the New England Historical & Genealogical Library, Boston, MA.
William Bullock emigrated from Manchester England to Rhode Island 1632 in the Sloop, "Lyon". Samuel and two brothers, Richard & Israel, sons of the said William emigrated from England to Weymouth, MA and from there to Rehoboth, MA in 1640.
[Note: This seems to be very mixed up. There are numerous mistakes in the rest of the manuscript also.]Family History Center - Ancestral File

A Bullock Family History from Rehoboth to Holcomb, 1643-1957, by Paul D. Bullock, 1983.
Richard became a free man in 1646 ... an inference is drawn that Richard was a bondservant.
[Note:The term "freeman" did not imply servitude. It was granted to citizens who were church embers and who owned property]
A Common Theory That Richard Bullock was in Newtown, Long Island.
Many sources state that Richard Bullock of Rehoboth went to Newtown, Long Island for a time. I feel sure that there was another Richard Bullock who was there, probably a nephew or other relative. Richard of Rehoboth's inventory lists a debt from Richard Bullock. Hid own son, Richard, was a seven month old baby.
