Wife
Sarah Ellen "Susan" Shipp
(daughter of William Shipp)
Known Children:
Mary Ann Deshazo (b.ca. 1824 GA)
md. Enoch C. Brown
(as shown on 1850 Dooly Co., GA census)
John first appears on 1811 Pulaski County, Georgia court records. He is shown in Pulaski county until 1818 when a Jno. Deshazo is shown on the Twiggs County, Georgia land tax digest. The amount or lot of land is not specified, but he does appear near his father, William; brother, Robert; and said grandfather, Robert. Jno. Deshazo is not shown on later Twiggs county tax digests. Perhaps this is because he is the John Deshazo shown purchasing and selling land in Houston county in 1826. It is on this Houston county deed that both of his brothers (Robert and Richard) sign as witnesses. According to records, both the grandfather, Robert and the father, William Deshazo were deceased by this time in 1826. A third brother, James Deshazo is also indicated in later records to have been deceased by 1826. He is shown on McIntosh county census in 1830. After 1830 John sells his land purchases in Houston, Chatham and McIntosh counties. By 1836 he is shown paying tax on both private land and business land. He pays taxes on private land valued at $180. He pays taxes on land of "Deshazo and Brainard" and two negro slaves. This is evidently a land that the law office of Deshazo and Brainard was located and run on. Mr. Brainard, is later shown paying taxes from John's estate on this same land.
John Deshazo died at the age of 45 (as stated in The newspaper, Georgia Journal) in 1840. The newspaper, Georgia Journal ran notices of both the death of John Deshazo and the selling of his personal property. An extensive (26 page) estate record is show for John Deshazo in the files of the Superior Court of Pulaski county, GA., Mr. George Brainard is specifically named as the administrator of the estate of John Deshazo. John's wife, Susan Deshazo and daughter, Mary Ann Deshazo are also specifically named. Susan is also shown in the will of her father, William Shipp (Talbot county, GA) in 1830 as "my daughter, Susan Deshazo". One page of John's estate specifically deals with monies being collected by his brother in law, Crawford Hart from Robert and Richard Deshazo in regards to the estates of William and James Deshazo (still in probate in Twiggs co., GA). The information in John's estate record firms up the indications that not only were Richard and Robert sons of William, but John, James and Eliza were also William Deshazo's children. Pulaski county land tax records and John's estate record show that it took Mr. Brainard 4 to 6 years to tend to all legal matters of property and finances before the estate record of John Deshazo could be closed.
NOTE: All these Deshazo's are very likely related. PLEASE keep in mind that the above information is a result of my own research, based on documents that I have found. There are still MANY "loop holes"! Alot of hands and time are needed to research these areas to try and uncover more documents that will shed evidences of certainty on the lives of these folks.
