I am new to computers and found it very difficult to figure out how to use the darn thing. I wanted to have a homepage but didn't know how to do it and then a friend introduced me to Geocities . There are a lot of tools available here which made building a homepage easier. Also, I could build it online and didn't have to tie up hard drive space on my already cramped computer.
I spent most of my time searching from webpage to webpage looking for information to help me build my own page. So I decided it would be a good idea to keep a page of tips and links easily accessible to me and anyone else building a homepage for the first time. I hope this page helps you.
You can find out how to do something that you see on another webpage by placing the cursor on an open space and right clicking to bring up a menu and the select View Source. A window will open that shows you all the HTML used to make that page.
After you have registered for your free page at Geocities, use their Basic HTML Editor to generate your first page. Then go back with the Advanced HTML Editor and change the options like colours. The basic HTML codes of your web page will already be there.
Colours are 6 digit codes. Here are some colours that you can try out.
seagreen 00ffaa
peach ff9955
navy blue 000080
magenta ff00ff
maroon 800000
To get a graphic, put the cursor on it and right click to bring up the menu. Then click save.
Any questions, please email me and I will try to help. I am a beginner too so I may not have all the answers but I can tell you how I did something or overcame some problem. I have learned a lot in the past year by going to all the wonderful places listed above. So much, in fact, I am now a Community Leader for Heartland Woods. Good luck!
