I just set up a club for animal lovers with Yahoo Clubs, Tirsa's Club. It is a club not for an specific pet or animal, but for all. Everyone who owns an
animal or loves animals is welcome. I myself
have first aid for animals and
am a certified dog trainer.
Here we can exchange our
experiences, tell stories and
help each other with our pets
where necessary! I do hope it will grow out to a very interesting club and perhaps who knows, new friends could be made!
Hi, I'm Tjitske the only guinea pig left in this family. Unfortunately last year (2000) Junior got ill and passed away. Though I do miss her, I'm having a great time of my own. Getting much more attention now and treats and you should see my cage full of straw, hay and other yammie goodies. My mum also pets me a lot. I love that so much that I even allow her to do that when I'm in my cage. As soon as she opens the door of the cage I run to it and let her pet my chin, cheek and belly. That is soooooo good!
And now I heard some REAL GOOD news! My mum is going to get me a friend so I won't be alone all the time. That is going to be so cool! That way we can chat all the time. She is going to get me a girlfriend, so we can have some real girl-to-girl talks. It will take probably some 2 months or so before my new friend will get here, as she hasn't been borne yet. I'm so curious!! So check in regular to keep up to date!
After being a great pet for 6,5 years, Barry died March 18th, 1999. He was a great guinea pig and a good friend, so we will keep his story here for his memory.
Hi folks,
I was the first guinea pig (or cavia as we are called in Dutch) here. I arrived in October '92 as a young boy. Hugs and kisses all the time and the food: Yummy!!! In no time I grew and became a real macho! Unfortunately I was still living alone. I had to think of something to solve that problem. After a couple of weeks I knew it. I started looking very sad every time I got some food. And you would never believe it, but it worked!! Next Spring '93 Neeltje found me so lonely that she bought me a friend. You want to hear a big joke. She though she bought me a male friend, who she called Bagel, but I knew better: it was a real live girly guinea pig!!!!
Well guys, of course you know what I did right away: take care of some critters! So after a couple of weeks I became a real proud dad of two little ones. Can you imagine the look on the face of Neeltje? Unfortunately, I was punished directly for making this happen and she had me 'helped'. So when I returned Bagel after the little ones where grown up, there was no partying for me anymore. Unfortunately the next Summer '94 Bagel died. Now I didn't have to pretend any more being lonely. I must confess that I really missed her and hated being alone. This time Neeltje couldn't see me like this and got me a very pretty new girlfriend called Lady. We did need some time to get along, but became the best of friends. But oh, unlucky me, as you could read above, she also passed away after a very bad pneumonia. She is burried together with Bagel. After a very short mourning Neeltje was so kind again to get me a new girlfriend, Bontje, and this was love at first sight. You can read her story below. I really do hope that she will stay with me the rest of my life, as I'm getting a bit older and changing girlfriends this often is not so nice.
Can you believe this: she was already pregnant. You can read all about that in her story. I don't know what it is with pregnant guinea pigs, but also Bontje wasn't meant to live long. We will however, also not forget her, as her daughter Junior stayed with us and is not huge!!!!!!!!!!!! But, she is nice and nice company for this old guinea pig.
I want to leave this piece Lady wrote on our page, though she passed away during the Summer of 1997 and is now also in guinea pig heaven together with the others.
Hello everybody, I am Lady. Coming into this household was a real
shock to me, but perhaps also my rescue. You see, I lived in a shop
and was just having babies. They did take good care of me, but I
was getting tired of having babies, and then Neeltje came to the
shop, explaining to the shop owner that she wanted a new friend
for her guinea pig, but that it had to be a girl. So the shop
owner showed me to her and although we were not friends right
away, she took me home. It was all a kind of a shock to me.
Having to move out of the shop and then have to share my cage
with another guinea pig, who was male!! I was scared to death
that I did have to have babies again, so we did have quite some
fights that first day. But do you know, I soon found out that he
wasn't a real guy anymore!! Ha Ha! It took some time before
we got used to each other, but I must confess: I wouldn't want
to do without him anymore!! And I believe Barry and I are going
to have a real treat this Summer. I heard Neeltje talk about
having an outside cage for us in our run and even is going to
widen it, so we can stay outside the whole Summer and not only
during the weekends when she is home.
Well, I'm the 3rd girlfriend of this ever so handsome guinea pig Barry. I was given to Neeltje by a good friend, who said to me that I was going to get a very good home there. So I decided just to do that, because you see, I was already pregnant. Of course, I didn't say that, but I could use a good home for my little ones.
So, there we went. I could never have believed that I was going to live with such a handsome guinea pig. It was love at first sight! Cuddling all day and sleeping together, until: they found out I was pregnant. Well, my belly was getting quite huge, so I couldn't hide it anymore. What was worse: I was put in a separate cage!!! For the safety of my young ones, Neeltje said. Well, I just believed her as she is the expert here, I haven't have any young ones before. It still took some weeks for the young ones to be born, but surprise! in the night of September 17/18 1997 I gave birth to two ever so cute little guinea pigs.
Neeltje called them Junior (who looked a little bit like me) and Streepje, because he has two white stripes on his back. Unfortunately for Streepje he couldn't stay, being a 'him'. But he already had a good home. He went to Elsa and as I heard he is doing just fine and as you can see, grew to be a very big boy!!
Junior passed away in the Summer of 2000. Also her story stays here.
Well, here I am Junior, the oldest now in this guinea pig household. It was great having been with my mum for such a long time and I was very sad when she passed away. Luckily at that time I still had Barry to keep me company, but he was getting older and older and thinner and thinner. So as you could read he passed away on March the 18th 1999. I was very sad and felt very alone as I had never been alone in my life. I felt afraid in that big cage. Luckily Neeltje understood my situation very quick and went on a search for a new companion. And did she find one! This one is so strange looking. Her hair isn't shining smooth as mine but it looks like a fur coat, just look at her:
And at first she was a cute little guinea pig. Well, she is no more. She grow big so quick that we first thought that she was pregnant too, but when the little ones didn't give any sign to be born, Neeltje went again to the vet (who first also confirmed that Tjitske was pregnant) and now it seemed that she wasn't pregnant at all, just BIG!!! But I must admit I love her very much now and we are inseparatable.
We would love to hear from other guinea pigs how they live, and how they are treated.
