A Tribute to my Grandparents 57 1/2 years of Marriage
I am still working on this page, but hope to have a lot of different stories about my Granny Helen and Popaw Malvin Mourton. They were the best of grandparents. Helen Eckhardt and Malvin Mourton were married June 19, 1937. They raised 5 children, 1 daughter and 4 sons. They buried their only daughter, Helen Marie Mourton Foster at the age of 33. Helen Marie was my mother. That event was very hard for both of them, for the children are to bury the parents, not the other way around. Popaw Malvin left this life on January 8, 1994. Granny Helen followed soon afterward on September 10, 1994. They are now eternally together forever in Heaven with their Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and their daughter, Helen Marie.

This is probably the last picture taken of Popaw & Granny. It was taken on Tuesday evening after we returned from the Mena Gospel Singing Class. Gospel singing was something that Popaw & Granny enjoyed and got pleasure from. They were always faithful in going to the Gospel Singing no matter how far they had to drive. They would go to Sunday morning service, come home after taking people home that they had picked up for church, and then grab something to eat, usually Granny had something already prepared in advance, and they would leave and drive to where a Gospel singing was going on. Sometimes they would drive up in the hollows and mountains, sometimes across the state line into Oklahoma, usually it was for several miles, sometimes an hour or more. It didn't matter how bad the weather, you could always count on them to go to their Sunday afternoon singing if it was at all possible. They also went during the week too. They would always leave in time to get back home for Sunday evening church. They were very dedicated Christians, and if more of us were like them, this world would be a more happier, friendlier and pleasant place to live.
